Austin Waldorf School is seeking a history and humanities teacher to join our dedicated high school team for the school year. Our enthusiastic and collaborative team of specialists is looking for an applicant who is passionate about the study and teaching of history and can render their subject to high school students in an enlivening and experiential way. Applicants who possess skills in theater would be a great addition to our faculty. Preference will be given to applicants with expertise in History, Anthropology, Theater, and general Humanities.

Requirements

  • BA in History, Anthropology, Theater, or a related field.
  • At least one year of teaching experience. Experience with high school students is desirable.
  • Experience, familiarity, and/or genuine interest in Waldorf education. A completed Waldorf teacher training is ideal.
  • Ability to engage high school students in interesting history lessons through storytelling, hands-on activities, and field trips in addition to lectures and presentations.
  • Ability to explain and illustrate the study of history through multiple historical lenses.
  • Ability to lead plays and engage high school students in the preparation of theatrical performances.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as excellent collaboration skills.

    The Austin Waldorf High School History and Humanities teacher is responsible for several block courses for 9th-12th graders. Blocks are assigned to teachers based on expertise and strength and may include courses such as U.S. History, Geography, History of the Middle Ages, Indigenous Peoples, History Through Architecture, or courses focused on literature, poetry, or composition. Depending on skills, theater block(s) may be included in the job description. Teachers will have access to past curricula and will be supported in developing their own curricula over time.
