Job Description:
  • This Statement of Work (SOW) outlines the responsibilities, expectations, and additional requirements for the SE1 or SE2 Network Engineer position. The role will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of network systems across various Council work sites in the Twin Cities metro area.
  • Scope of Work
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for network system issues, actively participating in[PP1] [NM2] problem resolution, proactive problem management, and root cause analysis.
  • Assist in the configuration, installation, monitoring, and maintenance of network equipment to guarantee uninterrupted business operations.
  • Coordinate service outage and recovery efforts for network and telecom issues, ensuring timely communication through the IS Service Desk.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including test procedures, policies, and system logs, to uphold the integrity of network and telecom systems.
  • Monitor network performance and security, promptly identifying and addressing potential threats to ensure data integrity and confidentiality.
  • Seek guidance and mentoring to enhance technical skills and knowledge, fostering continuous professional development.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the Council's overall network infrastructure and operational requirements.
Required Education:
  • A Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Relevant industry certifications, such as CCNA, CCNP, or similar certifications, are desired.
Required Experience:
  • Minimum of 3-5 years in network engineering or related experience.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)
  • Knowledge of Cisco networking technologies; routers, switches, wireless. controllers, access points, Prime, etc.
  • Knowledge of monitoring tools such as SolarWinds or PRTG
  • Knowledge and understanding of overall information security best practices.
  • Skills with managing and configuring firewalls; Cisco, Checkpoint, Palo Alto etc.
  • Problem solving skills across multiple network platforms.
  • Ability to provide great quality customer service.
  • Ability to prioritize and balance multiple tasks.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with peers, business units and vendors.
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Additional Requirements:
  • Please note that this position is based at our Jackson Street office in St. Paul and requires travel to various Council work sites throughout the Twin Cities metro area. As some of these sites are not accessible by public transportation, the incumbent may need to operate a Council vehicle. Therefore, candidates must possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
