Summary:
The person in this position will work with multidisciplinary project teams providing electrical engineering and related technical expertise. Work will include integrating process, mechanical, and control requirements into comprehensive design of electrical systems primarily for industrial and municipal facilities. Typical tasks may include completing calculations and analyses; developing design details; preparing drawings, specifications, sketches, and cost estimates; selecting equipment; assisting with writing proposals and reports; and communicating with clients under the supervision of a registered professional engineer. Project work will include design of power and controls for power plants, refineries, mine processing facilities, and other heavy industrial facilities, as well as water and wastewater treatment facilities for municipal clients. The work may involve short-term travel, usually one week or less in duration.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with academic coursework focused on power or control systems0 to 5 years of relevant experienceComputer skills and familiarity with AutoCAD, Excel, and WordStrong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skillsAbility and willingness to work cooperatively with team members in a high-energy working environment that encourages self-initiativeA flexible working style and a willingness to modify personal schedule as required to meet deadlines and/or client needsLegal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the futurePossession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in a design capacity on projects directly related to job responsibilities described above at a consulting engineering or industrial organization2+ years of relevant experiencePower distribution experienceUnderstanding of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)Understanding of short-circuit analysisFamiliarity with power studies using computer software (e.g., SKM, ETAP)Willingness to learn new skillsProven project or task management skillsEngineer-in-Training (EIT) certified (passed Fundamentals of Engineering exam) or ability to obtain within one yearGPA 3.0 or greater
A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position can be based out of Barr's Salt Lake City, Utah, office.
NOTE: Applicants must be able to work in locations that feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and to enter and work in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Safety training and all necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
