About the Opportunity: The Research Associate III – Protein Engineering will join the Protein Engineering group, within the Research department. As a key member, you will be a part of a dynamic and enthusiastic team responsible for engineering of enzymes used in the ECO SynthesisTM platform, for manufacturing of pharmaceutical intermediates, or in Life Science workflows. In this role you will engage in a range of activities with a high performing team with day-to-day laboratory workflows and operations. Your responsibilities will span from designing and building to evaluation of protein libraries, and identifying improved enzyme variants. The position will be based in Redwood City, CA. In this role you will be responsible for: Generating diverse libraries of enzyme variants through various mutagenesis methods.
Expressing recombinant protein in high-throughput (HTP) and shake flask scale.
Assisting in developing relevant enzyme assays in HTP format.
Executing HTP screens to evaluate enzyme performance under application-relevant conditions, using UV-Vis Spectrophotometry, CE, HPLC, GC, LC-MS or GC-MS methods to quantify relevant products.
Managing large data sets and communicating results to a multidisciplinary team.
Maintaining a safe and efficient workplace, following safe lab practices and organizing lab environment.
Keeping diligent records and writing reports and SOPs.

The essential requirements of the job include: BS or MS in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology or related scientific field.
Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in a laboratory environment.
Knowledge and interest in molecular biology, protein biochemistry and enzymology.
Experience with documentation, record keeping, writing SOPs and reports.

Additional experience that would be valuable for this role includes:
Knowledge of recombinant protein expression techniques within bacterial systems.
Experience with/understanding analytical techniques.
Familiarity/ interest in lab automation equipment.

CODEXIS PAY TRANSPARENCY: The anticipated salary range for candidates who will work in Redwood City is $92,250 to $107,000. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Codexis is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states​.
