Job Purpose

The purpose of this position is to collect and test water samples and install, inspect, test, repair, and replace water meters and backflow devices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Tests, repairs, and replaces water meters.
  • Responds to customer inquiries or complaints.
  • Performs routine flushing of fire hydrants and blow offs at dead end waterlines and other problem areas.
  • Completes analysis and reports and documents information from inspections, testing, and maintenance.
  • Maintains, calibrates and cleans all necessary equipment for jobs.
Supplemental Functions
  • Performs other similar duties as required.
Job Specifications and Qualifications Knowledge
  • Applicable local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations;
  • Utility Services principles and practices;
  • Equipment and tools of the trade.
Licensing and Certifications
  • Valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver's License preferred or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire. Failure to obtain within 6 months from date of hire may result in termination.
  • Ability to obtain North Carolina Grade C Water Distribution Certification within six (6) months of hire. Failure to obtain within 6 months from date of hire may result in termination

Required Experience

High school diploma or equivalency and at least six-months to one (1) year of advanced study, with at least three (3) years of experience; or the City may consider an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
