BASIC FUNCTION:

The Cost Analyst II is responsible for supporting the Cost Manager and Operations staff through routine financial analysis, reporting and maintenance of internal controls.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring all transactions are recorded in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, including inventories, operating expenses, and capital expenditures.
  • Auditing and reporting on internal controls.
  • Generating and analyzing routine monthly and weekly reports.

DIMENSIONS:

  • Personnel No direct supervisory responsibilities
  • Scope Metals Recycling medium-large yards, > 3,000 tons/month or
  • yards with further production processes
  • Experience 3+ years prior experience

NATURE AND SCOPE:

The responsibilities of this position pertain to the accuracy of financial information and maintenance of internal controls. The Cost Analyst II will review day to day transactions, including inventory, purchasing of goods and services, and purchasing and sales of scrap, ensuring accuracy and adherence to company policies and procedures. The Cost Analyst II will also provide support to operations for SAP (or other ERP systems), perform internal control audits and develop action plans.

This position reports directly to the Cost Manager.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Responsible for the accuracy, timeliness and completeness of financial transactions including but not limited to, inventories, production, shipping, sales, and purchasing.
  • Coordinate and periodically participate in monthly physical inventory counts.
  • Prepares monthly production reports and analyze inventory valuations.
  • Reviews inventory transactions for completeness and accuracy.
  • Reviews general ledger activity and prepares adjusting journal entries.
  • Performs account reconciliations, including cash held at the locations.
  • Prepares routine financial reports.
  • Coordinates preparation of monthly performance forecasts.
  • Periodically travels to Metals Recycling locations to perform audits of internal controls.
  • Analyzes variances of actual results from budget and forecast.
  • Assists with annual budget preparation.
  • Leads or assists with special projects as required.

The incumbent must perform the above-mentioned duties and responsibilities in accordance with all Federal, Provincial, and Local environmental regulations including the Occupational Health & Safety Act, the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, and the Environmental Protection Act. Employees must also report any situation which may have a detrimental impact to human health or the environment to their immediate supervisor.
