Our School Accountant will handle the responsibilities of the Business Office in its day to day processes required to manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, financial reporting, account reconciliation and cash management.

In addition to daily transaction management, they will help structure and maintain records management, personnel records and related data entry.

The School Accountant will report to the Director, Finance and Operations and support their requests related to financial and operational performance.


General Education and Experience:

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a minimum of a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field from an accredited four-year college or university. Advanced degrees are helpful but not required.
  • Have at least 4 years of experience in accounting or a related field, ideally in a small to midsize business or school.
  • Have a working knowledge of GAAP and current accounting practice.
  • Be able to prepare annual 990 tax filings and financial audits, working with an external accounting firm to fulfill their needs.
  • Manage weekly and semi-monthly payroll and related reporting.
  • Be experienced in managing accounts payable, accounts receiveable, records management, budget development and management, account reconciliation. Be capable of producing profit and loss statements, cash flow statements, budget updates and other financial reporting monthly and on-demand. Keep current on financial reporting and records.
  • Be able to manage to and fulfill multiple, detail-oriented projects and deadlines consistently.
  • Be adaptive to new ideas, approaches and systems, able to partner with others to identify new and more effective ways to fulfill organizational goals.
  • Facilitate benefits selection, insurance coverages and other financial and operational components in place to run the organization.
  • Be able to professionally interact with staff, families, other stakeholders in a respectful, productive manner.
  • Experience with non-profits or independent schools is desirable.
  • Be a forward-thinking person of entrepreneurial spirit who can guide the school toward future growth and success.
  • Have a working knowledge of PCs and office applications such as Word, Excel and Google applications. Have a working knowledge or at least ability to quickly learn Quickbooks accounting software.
  • Enjoy working in a school environment. Get along well with children ranging from ages 4 to 18.
  • Have unimpeachable ethics, honesty, respect for all and a deep desire to work on behalf of students and the people who serve them. Be a dependable steward of the school, its staff and families, working to fulfill the mission of the school each and every day.
