Unit Position Summary

Seasonal Field Assistant - Kellogg Biological Station (Hickory Corners, MI)

Dr. Jen Lau's lab at Michigan State University's Kellogg Biological Station (KBS) is looking to hire a part-time to full-tie seasonal field assistant for June 2024- August 2024. Specific start and end dates can be worked out. The duties and responsibilities of the job include assisting Dr. Lau's field technician and lab manager (Mark Hammond) with conducting research to support Dr. Lau's interesting at KBS. This includes her research at the long term ecological research (LTER) at KBS. Specific duties would be assisting with measuring plant traits (plant height, leaf size), census and survey of plant seedlings, soil collection, soil sieving, and extration of nitrogen from soils, and data entry. A portion of the job is general support of infrastructure used in the field experiments. This would include moving rainout shelters, possibly cleaning rain-out shelter roofs, and other associated tasks.

The position is part-time (15 to 20 hours per week), but could be full-time for some weeks during the summer.

Desired Qualifications

A valid Michigan Driver's license is required.
Interest in an associated career such as biology, environmental science, plant biology, agronomy, ecology.
Motivated, strong work ethic, good communication skills.
