Provides care and counseling of persons in the promotion and maintenance of health and prevention of illness and injury based upon the nursing process which includes systematic data gathering, assessment, appropriate nursing judgment, and evaluation of human responses to actual or potential health problems through such services as case finding, health teaching, health counseling; provision of care supportive to or restorative of life and well-being; and executing medical regimens including administering medications and treatments prescribed by a licensed or otherwise legally authorized provider (Michigan Board of Nursing).

The nurse's primary commitment is to the patient, whether an individual, family, group, or community (ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses).

Nurse Practitioners practice in the Clinic Setting with Full License Authority completing New Patient Consults, following patients with Return Visits and Consulting on in-patients as needed.

The nurse is responsible and accountable for individual nursing practice and determines the appropriate delegation of tasks consistent with the nurse's obligation to provide optimal care (ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses).

Provides a full range of nursing care to patients with complex care needs utilizing the nursing process based on the ANA Standards of Nursing Practice.

Accurately documents in the medical record patient findings, assessments, and care provided.

Functions as the charge nurse, team leader, or in other leadership role that guides and directs others who provide patient care.

Uses a team approach to identify, analyze, and resolve patient care problems that result in improved patient outcomes.
Identifies potential and actual problems involving resources and/or safety.

Takes action to avert or manage the situation in a manner which meets the needs of patients in a safe/therapeutic manner.

Plans patient care and nursing resources for maximum staff productivity, staff and time efficiency, and positive patient outcomes.

Participates in establishing, maintaining and improving healthcare environments and conditions of employment conducive to the provision of quality health care and consistent with the values of the professional through individual and collective action (ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses).
