The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is a member of the Chronic Pain Wellness Center at 32nd Street Clinic Wellness and Spine Clinic.

LPNs work as a Clinical Associate (CA) demonstrating active collaboration and communication with the Core Team (Patient, Pain Care Provider, RN Care Coordinator and Clerk) and the Expanded Team (family/caregiver, internal and community-based services involved in providing care to be patient).

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works under the direction of an RN.

The LPN is responsible for observing, recording, and reporting changes in the patient's condition, as well as assisting in the development and revision of the patient-driven whole person life care plan.

The LPN requires a general review of their work by an RN for appropriateness and conformity with license, policies, and procedures.


The LPN responsibilities include, but are not limited:
Communicate and interact appropriately and courteously with internal and external customers.
Integrate and apply pertinent aspects of the Medical Center performance improvement program into their professional practice.
Utilize nursing research, evidence-based practice, and literature in daily practice.
Provide care appropriate to the socio psychobiological needs of the population served. This knowledge includes an understanding the sociopsychobiological needs of patients with chronic pain.

The incumbent must be able to assess and interpret data relating to the patient's current health status, which will facilitate the delivery of care appropriate to the age specific needs of patients with chronic pain.

Taking vitals, updating clinical reminders, making observations, and thoroughly documenting care and the patient's response
Maintaining confidentiality of electronic, written, and/or verbal patient information
Communicating with VA and non-VA medical offices/facilities to coordinate care
Making follow up calls including missed appointment calls, assistance with scheduling, notifying patients test results as instructed by the provider
Assisting with injections to maintain sterile technique, drawing up medications for the physician, cleaning and preparing ultrasound probe between patients to maintain sterile technique, scrubbing patient list to ensure correct medications and supplies are available so that appointments are not wasted due to not having needed medications/supplies

Work Schedule:
Monday to Friday 7:30am to 4:00pm

When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of existing pay, higher or unique qualifications, or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).


Paid Time Off:
37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)

Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.

Parental Leave:


After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.


Child Care Subsidy:


After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.
