General Notes

Initial assignment will be for one year.Subsequent renewal of employment will be based upon performance review, progress towards research goals, and continuation of funding.

Purpose

To perform and assist with mouse behavioral and molecular experiments in support of the Dobbs Lab for the Department of Neuroscience.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain animal colonies associated with experiments in the lab. Responsibilities include maintaining breeding pairs, ear tagging pups, and sending tissue samples out for genotyping. Keeping accurate breeding logs and records of all animals used in experiments.
  • Perform behavioral experiments in mouse models. Includes assays to measure food and drug reward and self-administration as well as locomotor assays. Also includes performing associated data analysis, writing of results, and creation of figures.
  • Perform surgical procedures in mouse, such as stereotaxic viral injections or cannula implantation.
  • Perform various histological and "wet lab" tasks, such as making solutions, dissecting and sectioning brains, and analyzing brain sections or homogenates for basic histology and with immunohistochemistry, Western blot, RNA scope or quantitative PCR.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, neurosciences, life sciences or related field.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Familiarity with basic statistical analysis (ANOVA, t-tests, correlation).
  • Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience handling and using mice in behavioral neuroscience experiments is preferred.
  • One or more years of laboratory experience.
  • Strong candidates will also have experience with basic "wet lab" skills such as pipetting, making solutions, qPCR, and immunohistochemistry.
  • Experience using GraphPad Prism for data analysis is a plus, but not necessary.

Salary Range

$38,520 + depending on qualifications.
