Actuation System Architecture & Design Engineer
BAE Systems wants your Systems Engineering talent to develop complex system architectures and perform system design activities such as developing and managing system, hardware and software requirements, performing system level integration/test and assisting in validation for complex actuation control systems. As a systems engineer in our organization, you will be responsible for ensuring successful technical execution of development and providing critical input to Systems Engineering discipline processes in support of actuation Controls and Avionics Solutions.
Controls and Avionics Solutions provides flight and mission-critical products to more than 170 commercial and military customers around the world. CAS products include flight controls and actuation systems, full authority digital engine controls (FADEC), autonomous flight systems, power management systems, flight deck systems, control sticks, cabin management systems, intermediate and depot level test stands, and mission systems for the world's most prominent commercial and military aircraft manufacturers.

Engineers at our Endicott NY and Los Angeles CA support the Controls & Avionics Solutions (CAS) Business Area.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  1. Lead systems engineering functions performing one or more of the following:
    1. Develop, allocate and manage complex actuation system, electronics hardware and software requirements.
    2. Research and develop complex, safety critical, embedded control system designs and architectures.
    3. Define actuation, electronics, hardware, and software interfaces and functionality.
    4. Prepare and/or review documentation for actuation system designs and architectures in accordance with established systems development processes and procedures.
    5. Perform system/product integration.
    6. Verify and validate moderately complex aspects of actuation systems designs to ensure conformance with functional specifications and customer requirements.
    7. Produce and/or review technical documents, specifications and standards.
  2. Support business leaders in identifying potential new products or business opportunities and define associated program requirements.
  3. Support proposal development activities, including proposal text development, cost estimating and presentation activities.
  4. May support various specialty-engineering tasks such as Reliability, Maintainability & Availability analysis, Integrated Logistics Support.
  5. Prepare and deliver basic customer and technical presentations.

Candidates should possess strong communication skills both written and oral. Candidates should also demonstrate sound interpersonal skills involving interfacing, coordinating and negotiating with company personnel, customers and suppliers.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in related engineering field
  • Experience leading the architecture, design, and integration of actuator and electronic control systems which include hardware, software and actuators.
  • 10+ years of experience in actuation and embedded electronic controls development, including familiarity with systems such as flight controls and actuation systems.
  • Requirements development, design, modelling, simulation, analysis, integration, and verification, including testing
  • Experience in full lifecycle development including system requirements, design, system-level integration, validation, and verification.
  • Technical writing skills: capable of creating required engineering documentation.


Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Master's Degree in related engineering field
  • 12+ years of experience in actuation and embedded electronic control systems development, including familiarity with systems such as flight controls and actuation systems.
  • Experience with System Fault Management design and architecture development
  • Knowledge in basic Physics, Mechanical Mechanisms, Hydraulics and Electronic Circuits
  • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink
  • 2+ years of experience developing architectural models using MBSE methodologies and best practices
  • 2+ years of experience using MBSE/SYSML tools such as MagicDraw/Cameo
  • Experience with development of formal validation and verification procedures.
  • Familiar with safety critical development including ARP4754, DO-178B/C and DO-254 or equivalent stringent process requirements.
  • Knowledgeable of commercial and military certification objectives and activities.


Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $ $215270
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
