In Controls & Avionics Solutions (CAS), we provide flight and mission-critical products to more than 600 commercial and 170 military customers around the world. CAS leverages its development and integration expertise to be a leading provider of flight-critical electronics for military and commercial aircraft, including fly-by-wire flight controls, full authority digital engine controls, power management solutions, cabin management systems, and mission systems.

CAS is looking for a highly motivated and experienced Business Development Director to lead a dynamic BD team. This position reports directly to the Electronic Systems Sector Vice President of Business Development. The ideal candidate will bring a robust strategic vision, exceptional leadership, and a proven track record in talent management. This role requires a forward-thinking individual capable of leading a diverse team to identify, establish, and nurture strategic relationships within the markets we operate within, provide actionable market intelligence to business leaders, grow the business area's orders pipeline through the creation, identification and qualification of quality opportunities and develop and execute capture strategies for opportunities aligned to the business' strategy.

Working with the CAS Business Area Leadership team, the role will be key in the development of growth strategies, execution of multiple marketing approaches, collaboration on product and technical roadmaps across DoD and commercial accounts. It will also require frequent customer contacts and a comprehensive understanding of customers' mission and technical requirements and management of a geographically dispersed BD team. Working with the VP/GM, Product Line Directors (PLD's) and key program management, the individual will shape and drive investment / growth strategies and develop and execute plans to fill orders pipeline with qualified opportunities that support the Business Areas strategic plan to outperform the market.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  1. Serve as a trusted advisor to the VP/ GM and a member of the CAS leadership team to develop and shape growth strategies, cultivate a growth mindset within the CAS organization, prioritize new business opportunities, and recommend investments to align with customers' needs and requirement.
  2. Lead and develop a diverse high-performance team of business development professionals by example, exemplifying the BAE Systems culture and values, fostering an environment that inspires innovation, teamwork, continuous improvement, and personal growth.
  3. Aggressively seek new business opportunities that are consistent with both the Business Area and Sector strategies by leveraging advanced technologies, customer relationships, market knowledge, and intercompany collaboration.
  4. Lead the CAS Business Development team to grow and mature the orders pipeline within CAS through the creation, identification and qualification of quality opportunities.
  5. Engage as a member of the CAS leadership team to develop growth strategies by providing key insights into mission and customer requirements, competitor intelligence and market trends.
  6. Establish and maintain strong relationships with key industry and internal stakeholders, including current and potential customers, partners, and industry influencers.
  7. Oversee the creation and development of individual opportunity marketing plans and capture strategies, as well as for the campaign level marketing and strategies.
  8. Collaborate closely with the VP of Business Development and provide regular updates on strategy, progress, and challenges. Serve as an active member of the Business Development leadership team to foster collaboration and advance the BD function.
  9. Generate reports and updates on business development activities, market trends, industry developments, emerging technologies, and KPIs to senior management.

Location: Endicott, NY, Austin TX, or Redmond WA. If the person is based in the latter two cities, there will be higher travel to ENY. Locations with proximity to major active customers will be considered.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in business, Marketing, Engineering, or related field
  • Proven track record of success in Business Development or Program Management within the DoD and/or Commercial Aviation Industry, with 10+ years* of experience in a leadership role
  • Deep understanding of the Controls and Avionics Solutions market, including current trends, competitor analysis, customer behavior, and future directions
  • Existing senior level customer relationships within the leading OEMs
  • Exceptional communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships at all levels.
  • Strong business acumen and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to identify and capture targeted opportunities.
  • Proven ability to grow the 5-year Integrated Business Plan (IBP) with quality orders.
  • Proactive and results-oriented mindset, with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to create, identify, shape, and qualification new business opportunities.
  • Ability to travel as required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and CRM software (Salesforce)

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $ $330800

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
