Responsibilities
Provide leadership to the Office of Human Resources which includes interpretation of state and federal laws, interpretation and development of university policies and procedures, consultation with employees on employment issues, generation of reports and annual plans, and managing daily operations. Oversees or coordinates the HR functions of recruitment, hiring, benefits administration, employee classification and re-classification, problem/grievance resolution, AA/EEO, training and performance management.

Establishes and cultivates strong relationships with IHL Board staff, senior campus leadership, academic departments, and other units. Builds upon successful collaborative programs and initiatives. Provides advice and counsel to campus management, supervisors, and staff regarding interpretation of personnel policies, leadership development and campus initiatives.

The Director of Human Resources is responsible for overseeing HR management and department operations to adhere to organizational policies and procedures. Duties include working with management and legal counsel as needed to ensure compliance with HR laws and regulations; mediating and suggesting solutions to employ disputes; compiling information about compensation and benefit packages based on market data; and managing the HR department budget.
Supervises and evaluates three full-time staff. Recommends staffing needs and has the major role in personnel decisions for the office.

Assumes other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Business Management, Organizational Management or a related field. Master's degree preferred.

Minimum 7 years of progressively responsible professional experience in Human Resource management for a diverse employee community, including exempt and non-exempt positions. Preferred experience in a college or university setting. A combination of education and experience may be considered.

In-depth knowledge of human resources theory and practice, including employment law, employee benefits, classification, etc.

Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience.

Commitment to personal integrity, ethical management, professionalism, and confidentiality.

Excellent interpersonal, negotiating, writing, and public speaking skills.

Proficient in Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

Experience with Banner HRIS preferred.
Salary Commensurate with experience, qualifications, and university's resources.
