Overall Responsibility:

The Director of West Hawaii (DWH) is a member of the executive team and provides organizational leadership in building and fostering relationships in the West Hawaii community and across West Hawaii programs. The DWH is responsible for the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of programs in West Hawai'i, directing multi-disciplinary staff in the provision of housing-focused services for individuals and families experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness. The Director of West Hawaii ensures that agency policy and procedures are followed and does other related work as required. Fostering teamwork, the DWH will co-create and implement plans to improve operational systems in West Hawaii to accommodate the growth and strategic objectives of the organization.

Reports to: Chief Operating Officer (COO) Classification: Exempt

Position Summary:

  1. Direct supervision and oversight of all programs, staff, and volunteers in West Hawaii.
  2. Ensure that all grant obligations meet contract agreement expectations for all programs funded by the public (government) and private sector.
  3. Direct oversight and compliance of contracted services, quality management, and the achievement of program outcomes.
  4. Ensure consistency and accountability of service delivery systems within and across programs according to workflow to meet agency measurement metrics that matter: (1) Increase the number of persons served; (2) Decrease the length of homelessness episodes; (3) Reduce recidivism and return to homelessness.
  5. Develop, recommend, and implement program policy and procedures.
  6. Coordinate with the maintenance and facility team, upkeep, compliance, and safety of all facilities.
  7. Review, investigate, and resolve all complaints/problems from staff members or clients associated with the program.
  8. Maintain and increase knowledge of current trends through daily reading (e-mail and news publications) and participation in webinars, staff meetings, and periodic offsite training.
  9. Engage and build strong relationships with government stakeholders, businesses, faith partners and service groups in the community.
  10. Keep the COO informed of any program-related problems, issues, incidents, and/or potential legal concerns so that appropriate action can be taken promptly.
  11. Perform all other duties as assigned by the COO.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Candidates must have a minimum of a High School diploma or GED and ten (10) years of experience working in a social services field.
  2. Must be a current resident of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, and must have resided in Kailua Kona for a minimum of five years to be eligible for consideration.
  3. Five (5) years of supervisory experience which includes: 1) planning and directing the work of others; 2) assigning and reviewing their work; 3) advising them of difficult problem areas, and 4) training and development of employees
  4. Demonstrated excellence in organizational leadership and communication skills.
  5. Must have strong computer skills, including word processing and database management.
  6. Valid Hawaii driver's license is required and access to an insured vehicle.
