Government Affairs Intern

The Century Foundation (TCF) is a progressive, independent think tank dedicated to improving the lives of Americans through research and policy solutions. TCF's policy focus includes economic, disability, racial, and gender equity in education, health care, and work, and the promotion of U.S. foreign policy that fosters international cooperation, peace, and security.
We are seeking a Government Affairs Intern to support TCF's policy teams' outreach to Congress and the Executive Branch. This internship position runs from approximately May 20 to August 15, 2024 for 20 hours per week. The position is hybrid with a minimum of one to two days per week in-person in our Washington, D.C. office.
Responsibilities
The Government Affairs Intern reports to the Director of the Government Affairs Program and is responsible for:
- Sharing TCF research and commentaries with targeted audiences in Congress and the Biden Administration;
- Helping TCF staff to arrange meetings with key congressional staff, members of Congress, and others;
- Monitoring developments in TCF's key policy areas, in the news and through other communications;
- Maintaining databases;
- Maintaining relationships with Hill and Executive Branch staff and responding to inquiries from Capitol Hill or the Administration;
- Tracking legislation relevant to our policy priorities;
- Tracking advocacy efforts by TCF staff, and;
- Other duties as may be appropriate.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, experience in government, public affairs, and/or advocacy are preferred, and Capitol Hill experience is strongly preferred. In addition, we are looking for someone with:
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Ability to work independently and in a team;
- An interest in public policy and preferably also TCF's issues areas;
- An eagerness to learn, and;
- Proficiency in Google Suite, particularly sheets and docs, as well as familiarity with Mail Merge.
