JOB DESCRIPTION

At NorthBay Health the Restorative Nursing Assistant (RNA) is responsible for the delivery of patient care to assigned patients under the direction and supervision of a licensed, professional nurse.

The RNA, utilizing the Jean Watson Nursing Theory of Caring and the Relationship Based Care Model, provides assistance to patients in accordance with the functional and developmental needs of each patient. Supports the mission, vision, values and expectation of excellence of the organization.

Primary job duties:

  1. Assists in maintaining a clean, safe environment for patients, self and co-workers and reports any unsafe conditions to the appropriate personnel.
  2. Transports patients via wheelchair or gurney between hospital departments and assists ambulatory patients between departments.
  3. Utilizes effective verbal and written communication with patient and family, physicians, and all other members of the healthcare team.
  4. Acknowledge individual responsibility for appropriate use of financial resources including staffing resources, equipment and supplies.
  5. Actively participates in and contributes to NorthBay programs and/or initiatives designed to maximize the return on organization financial resources through improvements and service delivery, reduction in expenses, and/or optimization of revenue.
  6. Performs other duties as assigned.

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITES:

  1. Provides direct patient care to meet patient needs for activities of daily living of the Joint Replacement Program.
  2. Maintains float capability as a CNA by participating in and completing annual competencies and training for the certified nursing assistant.
  3. Provides patients with information to reinforce care plan goals related to the use of Clinical Pathway, assistive devices and patient safety.
  4. Supports interdisciplinary team as outlined in JRP nursing care clinical pathway.
  5. Participates in goal management for patients following JRP Clinical Pathway
  6. Provides feedback and observations to manager of JRP, supervising RN, Case Manager or PT related to patient's participation in overall JRP activities, and readiness for advancement in the care pathway and/or discharge.
  7. Assists patients with ambulation and transfers as assigned by nurse or physical therapist. Provides information to patient about steps of transfer, selection of transfer technique and equipment selection.
  8. Assists PT or PTA with group therapy and other training.
  9. Demonstrates competency on all equipment specific to Joint Replacement as defined in competency checklists.
  10. Delivers care specific to population of unit – adult and geriatric.
  11. Participate in collection of data for Joint Replacement Focus Study and Joint Replacement Clinical Pathway.
QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Education: High school graduate or equivalent preferred. Graduate of certified program for CNA.
  2. Licensure/Certification: Current California CNA certificate. Current AHA or equivalent CPR certification.
  3. Experience: One year of experience as CNA acute care setting preferred. Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skill in providing appropriate care for patients in the Geriatric, Adult, and Adolescent and Pediatric age groups. Prior experience as RNA preferred.
  4. Skills: High level of initiative and independent work skills. Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  5. Interpersonal Skills: Subscribes to and follows the NorthBay Way. Compensation:

Hourly Salary Range MIN $23.59 – $25.96 (Offered hourly rate based on years of experience as a CNA)
