The Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Minnesota invites applications for a Assistant Professor position from candidates with a Ph.D or equivalent degree. The department is seeking outstanding scientists whose research is in the field of computational biophysics and biomechanics of tumor progression in 3D tumor model of brain tumor.

Principal Duties and responsibilities:
* originate research ideas
* develop research questions
* create research designs
* collect data
* analyze data
* write manuscripts for publications
* supervise, as needed, undergraduate, graduate students, junior scientists and postdocs working on related research projects
* seek funding opportunities and write grant proposals (e.g. NIH funding)


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
* PhD in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering or related field
* Expertise in cell mechanics/mechanobiology/biophysical and biomechanical modeling of cell-tissue systems
* Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with others
* Excellent oral and written communication skills

Preferred qualifications
* Experience in studies involving glioblastoma cell migration
* Experience in studies involving glioblastoma cell traction force
* Experience in studies involving glioblastoma tumor microenvironment
* Experience in studies involving glioblastoma PDX lines
* Experience in studies involving biophysical and biomechanical simulations
* Experience in studies involving bioinformatic analysis of transcriptomic data
* Experience in studies involving phase contrast and epifluorescence imaging
* Experience in statistical analysis of experimental data
* Records of publications in high impact journals
* Records of presentations in international conferences

The ideal candidate should have experience in biophysical and biomechanical modeling of cell migration and cell-tissue interactions, in vitro characterizations of glioblastoma cell migration, and bioinformatic analysis of transcriptomic data. Required skill sets include: computational programming, biophysical and biomechanical modeling and simulations, glioblastoma patient tumor cell isolation and culture, cell migration and traction force assays, phase contrast and epifluorescence microscopy, and bioinformatic analysis of transcriptomic data. The candidate must have the ability to define research questions and develop experiment designs to address those questions. The ideal candidate should have experience with brain tumor research, including primary and metastatic brain tumors. The candidate should have experience presenting research results through publications and presentations.
