The BLS headquarters is currently located in Washington, D.C. but is in the process of relocating within the National Capital Area to Suitland, Maryland.

If selected for this position, with an assigned duty station of Washington, D.C., you may be eligible for limited telework with approval from your supervisor, based on onsite duties and responsibilities, while the current headquarters is decommissioned and the future headquarters is being built.

Upon completion of the new headquarters offices in Suitland, MD, you will be expected to report to the Suitland Federal Center after receiving notification to do so.

At that time, you may be eligible to telework with approval from your supervisor, based on onsite duties and responsibilities, and if consistent with telework policies and mission needs of BLS.

As a Supervisory Research Economist with the Division of Price and Index Number Research (DPINR) you will:
Perform the full range of supervisory duties for a staff of professional research economists

Responsibilities include:

assigning work and setting priorities; providing advice and instruction over technical and administrative matters; communicating research progress and results to program managers; reviewing completed work projects; evaluating performance; recommending selections, promotions and reassignments; identifying development needs; resolving minor complaints and furthering equal employment opportunity goals.

Conduct empirical research designed to provide solutions to problems in price measurement and in the analysis of price behavior and consumer and producer behavior.

Conduct research designed to evaluate the feasibility of production implementation of abstract conceptual solutions to problems in indexes and surveys.

Devise new econometric and methodological techniques, where research problems cannot adequately be dealt with using standard available techniques.
Prepare articles and reports to present research findings, and planning future projects consistent with long range objectives.

Establish and maintain facilities for exchange of information with economists, statisticians, and other social scientists engaged in related research in government, academic and other research institutions.
