Postdoctoral Neuropsy Resident FT Days

Description :
DMC Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan is one of the nation's largest hospitals specializing in rehabilitation medicine and research. RIM is known for its clinical expertise in spinal cord injury, brain injury, stroke, amputee, orthopedics and catastrophic injury care. The Institute houses the Center for Spinal Cord Injury Recovery and the Southeastern Michigan Traumatic Brain Injury System (SEMTBIS), one of only 16 federally designated model systems of care for brain injury care and research. RIM also operates 31 outpatient sites throughout southeast Michigan specializing in sports medicine and orthopedics.
GENERAL SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Director of Training and other staff members, evaluates and diagnoses patients, administers and interprets psychological and neuropsychological tests and conducts family and individual therapy with patients and their families. Also, completes a research project under the direction of a staff member which results in a presentation at a local or national conference or a publication in a peer-reviewed journal. The postdoctoral resident must also attend the educational activities outlined in the monthly educational calendar for the department.
PRINCIPLES DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Performs intake evaluations. Conducts initial interview patient, arrives at a diagnosis and makes a treatment recommendation for the patient.
2. Administers, scores, and interprets psychological tests such as intelligence, personality and neuropsychological tests. Writes reports on the outcome of such tests.
3. Provides psychological treatment and psychotherapy to patients and their families. Designs behavioral management treatment programs to be carried out by staff. Writes progress notes and summaries of treatment.
4. Participates in chart round meetings to discuss patients psychological, neuropsychological, psychosocial and related behavioral health issues with other member of the treatment team. Attends various conferences and meetings.
5. Plans research projects, conducts research and prepares and presents research findings to interested parties including Institute staff, professional organizations, publications, the community, and so forth. A minimum requirement is that the postdoctoral resident present at a local or national conference.
6. Receives formal and informal supervision from the Director and other staff members.
Qualifications :
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum level of preparation and training: Ph.D or Psy.D. in clinical psychology, neuropsychology, or neuropsychology and completion of an APA or CPA-approved internship, and participation in the APPCN match program.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
1. Ph.D. or Psy.D. in clinical psychology, counseling psychology, or neuropsychology; completion of an APA approved internship, and participation in the APPCN match program.
2. Coursework in psychological testing and psychotherapy.
3. Interpersonal skills and sensitivity needed to interact with troubled clients in a supportive and empathetic manner.
4. Analytical and verbal ability sufficient to analyze psychological tests and diagnose patients' psychological problems and to write reports of tests, progress summaries, and treatment plans.
