Laboratory Projects Analyst FT Days

Description :
DMC University Laboratories (DMCUL) is a regional, integrated laboratory system providing services to the eight hospitals of Detroit Medical Center. DMC University Laboratories evolved in 1993 and is comprised of Core Laboratories, Specialty Laboratories, two rapid response hospital laboratories, Centralized Stat Lab, Centralized Blood Bank Lab, and full service outreach infrastructure which includes patient service centers, remote ambulatory laboratories, marketing staff, courier system and billing department. The DMC University Laboratories service area covers the entire Southeast Michigan market, and is growing at a rapid pace with the following outstanding features: Test menu of over 1,000 tests, which includes high end specialty tests. Less than 1% of our tests are sent to outside reference laboratories. Provide reference laboratory services to many of the other healthcare systems in Southeastern Michigan and several out of state facilities.
Job Summary
Under general supervision and according to established procedures, works closely with Laboratory leadership to ensure laboratory patient records are in order to meet billing and data collection needs of the hospital/laboratory. Works closely with laboratory staff with regard to assignment of proper cpt codes and appropriate lab charges per dates of service .
Assists/makes recommendations in the development of the parameters required for laboratory charge master codes by submitting required information to develop the charge master billing codes based on information from technical departments.
Works with appropriate people and processes to correct, resolve TCE rejections to ensure correct billing process based on appropriate documentation.
Communicates documentation improvement opportunities and billing issues (i.e. discrepancies, ) to the appropriate laboratory personnel for follow up and resolution. In coordination with laboratory leadership reviews changes in cpt codes to ensure the proper cpt codes are being utilized.
Responsible for development of presentation materials and teaching tools in coordination with Quality Director and Support Leadership. Works in conjunction with laboratory leadership on assigned special projects such as work flow re-organizations, LEAN projects, and designated special projects as defined by laboratory leadership.
Qualifications :
1. Associate degree in related area or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelors degree in related clinical discipline preferred.
2. Three to five years of progressively more responsible experience working with TCE rejections and charge master variables, with advanced knowledge of Medical Terminology and Pathology Cpt Procedure codes.
3. Previous experience working in clinical laboratory is preferred.
