Leads a team of maintenance mechanics and subcontractors in daily tasks such as installing, repairing, and performing maintenance of new or existing equipment involving mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry and other NRH facilities structures falling under this category. Performs basic preventive and corrective maintenance in in acute and non-acute spaces through all Hospital facilities, including HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems. Has direct input in the beautification process of rooms after patients are discharged, including scheduling and completing these projects in a timely manner.
Education
  • High School, trade or vocational school graduate required or
  • equivalent with courses such as blue print reading, basic electricity, electronics, andmathematics exhibiting the ability to read, understand, and interpret equipment manuals, written specifications, written and oral instructions, meters and gages, as well as models/graphic illustrations such as: layout diagrams, blueprints, mechanical and architectural drawings, work sketches, and schematic drawings. required
Experience
  • 1-2 years 2 years experience as a junior maintenance mechanic required or
  • 5-7 years or equivalent demonstrating the ability to perform this position and the knowledge of computer operations and programming of mechanical systems for five (5) years experience operating and maintaining hvac and microprocessor based pneumatic tube systems. required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Job requires some problem solving.
  • In most cases the problems are straight forward. Work generally has standard procedures and instructions but incumbent must organize work and set priorities.
  • Assists with patient care performing duties that provide a safe, healthful, and pleasant environment.
  • Basic computer skills preferred.
Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.Installs, tests, maintains and repairs equipment and systems, e.g., patient's beds, toilets, urinals, sinks, showers, tubs, filters, faucets, mixers, spigots, drains, disposals, strainers, dishwashers, kitchen/laboratory/laundry equipment, cage washers. *Trouble shoots and diagnoses engineering/plant equipment and develops and implements solutions and corrections. *Makes daily rounds and inspects/evaluates the condition of all system components, work in progress, and completed preventive and corrective maintenance ensuring that required standards of operation and maintenance have been met. Maintains accurate records/logs and submits logs/records to supervisor as appropriate. *Performs scheduled preventive maintenance and casualty prevention work orders. Recommends improvements and modifications as appropriate. *Guides employees under their supervision in the installation and repair of equipment and/or systems. *Develops estimates for a variety of repairs in accordance with established requirements. Determines the means and methods to be used, estimates time, material(s), and human resources needed, and may be required to secure the appropriate tools/equipment. *Learns and remains current with the latest applicable federal and local governing codes, standards, and regulations regarding fire, safety, plumbing, electrical and plant operations, including, but not limited to: OSHA, NFPA, The Joint Commission, ASHRAE, ANSI, DCRA, D.C. Fire & Safety Codes, and the Hospital's fire and safety practices.Standard Job Duty: Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts.Standard Job Duty: Participates in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams.
