Health Unit Coordinator, ICU

Purpose of Position:

Performs receptionist/secretarial duties on Patient Care units and functions as the central communication source in the Nursing Station.

Description

:

  • Completes necessary forms, requisitions and communications necessary to implement orders.
  • Sustains proficiency in Computerized Nursing Informatics (information systems).
  • Maintains accurate and complete patient records on assigned nursing units by established department policies and procedures, including but limited to
:

  • Initiates and assembles charts
  • Assists with obtaining and filing patient Health Care Proxy
  • Assists with organizing patient transfers within the hospital to other acute care facilities
  • Assists with discharge process of patients from the EMR
  • Initiates scheduling of PCP followup appointments
  • Responds in a professional and courteous manner in all telephone and verbal communications skills with internal and external customers.
  • Properly utilizes Nurse Locator for timely communications with nursing staff; and Patient Call system to initiate timely responsiveness to patient call bells.
  • Maintains patient chart in appropriate functional order as prescribed by hospital policy.
  • Represents hospital in the community and within the hospital by maintaining confidentiality regarding patients.
  • Maintains adequate quantity of forms, materials and supplies on assigned unit.
  • Adheres to safety, blood/body fluid policies and procedures.
  • Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers and co-workers.
  • Performs other work-related duties and activities as assigned or requested.
Qualifications

:

  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
  • Successful completion of medical terminology course or successfully pass medical terminology challenge exam.
  • Successful completion of EPIC training program and exam within one (1) month of starting position.
Schedule Details:
48PP (24 hrs per week), Rot Days, (3x) 8-hour shifts, 8a-4p, E/O Weekend & Rot Holidays (ICU)
