Position Specific Description

This position is within the Environmental Licensing & Permitting / Construction Compliance Section of the corporate Environmental Services Department of NextEra Energy (NEE), supporting new development opportunities in energy generation and storage for Florida Power and Light Company (FPL) and its affiliate companies.

This role will provide multifaceted and comprehensive environmental compliance support of construction projects, perform field assessments and site inspections, and prepare detailed environmental reports. Applicant must have the ability to support multiple projects with multifaceted environmental and regulatory issues.

Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively (email/phone/field/office) with FPL's construction managers, internal and external subject matter experts and FPL management as well as local, state, and federal agency representatives in support of assigned projects is necessary.

The applicant must maintain current knowledge of pertinent federal, state, and local environmental policies and regulations, and company policies, to help ensure strict environmental compliance. Other tasks will include project coordination, planning, budget and schedule support, and determining and mitigating environmental risks.

The job is located in Juno Beach, Florida. Frequent in state travel, with limited overnight stays and extended hours, will be required.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field preferred
  • Ability to work independently and highly organized
  • Strong analysis, problem solving, and professional skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite: Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel
  • GIS skills a plus

Primary (Essential) Job Functions: (List is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary)

  • Ensure all requirements outlined in project applications, permits, SWPPPs, applicable regulations/management plans, company policies, etc. are met/followed and that the responsible person(s) are identified to ensure environmental compliance by various parties involved with the successful and timely completion of assigned projects
  • When in-field adjustments are made during project construction, identify additional environmental certifications, permits, or authorizations needed, and coordinate with the environmental permitting lead and project's onsite management to facilitate obtaining such approvals
  • Coordinate, oversee, and inspect environmental compliance related project items throughout construction to ensure that the work is being carried out per plans, specifications, and permit requirements. Notify the project's onsite construction manager of any deficiencies, and give recommendations for corrective action to bring the site into compliance. Communicate deficiencies, updates, and project information up to direct supervisor
  • Be available for additional environmental support as needed (including storm duty)

• Performs other job-related duties as assigned
