Chicago, Illinois, United States Resolution Economics Full time
Title
Chicago, IL: Manager

Position
Los Angeles, CA: Manager

Location
Chicago

Req Number
CON

Description

Company Description:

Resolution Economics is a leading economic consulting firm focused on providing economic, statistical, and financial analysis; litigation and consulting support; and expert testimony to the world's leading companies and law firms. Resolution Economics is headquartered in Los Angeles with offices in Washington, D.C., Chicago, New York City, and Charlotte.

The Labor and Employment Practice typically engages in matters related to Wage and Hour or Discrimination litigation as well as other employment-related business consulting. We regularly provide analysis and support related to class action minimum wage/overtime claims, meal and rest break claims, employee misclassification claims, and discrimination matters related to hiring, pay, promotion, and/or wrongful termination. We conduct our work at all stages of the litigation process. Clients rely on us to provide complex exposure models, expert reports, preparation for depositions, rebuttals to the work of other experts, and expert testimony at deposition or trial. Our services are also retained for data collection efforts in the form of surveys, video content analysis, and on-site observational studies.

Working at Resolution Economics is a rewarding experience where teamwork, creativity, and academic rigor combined to generate real-world results. We regularly apply data analytical, statistical, and economic methods to create compelling narratives that are accessible to non-technical audiences. Our work often plays and important role in influencing State and Federal case law and directly impacts the outcomes of future litigation and the contours of work place policy. In addition, the analyses that we perform inform settlement discussions and arbitration proceedings, as parties attempt to resolve issues out of Court. Given the high-stakes and the large number of individuals potentially impacted by these cases, our clients rely on our adaptability, efficiency, and ability to maintain a high degree of reliability in our work.

Job Description:

The Manager role is a highly demanding yet highly fulfilling position. Those operating as Managers are expected to have a thorough understanding of the relevant case law as it applies to their projects. Managers generally oversee multiple projects simultaneously and will be required to assess the staffing needs for these projects and effectively allocate their own time among them. Managers are responsible for personally conducting and/or overseeing the majority of the programming work required on their projects and for ensuring that all work is error-free, replicable, and sufficiently documented. Managers are further responsible for ensuring that: a) work moves forward in an efficient manner, b) data issues and/or methodological concerns are resolved or brought to the attention of project Directors or Partners, c) results and findings are presented in a way that is 'client-ready' (e.g. visually pleasing and free of typographical errors), and d) work is completed on or ahead of schedule or that delays are effectively anticipated and communicated. Though not all cases will require direct contact with clients, Managers are expected to be able to accurately interpret client requests and to communicate with clients both orally and via e-mail in a professional manner. Resolution Economics Managers also serve as mentors to junior staff, providing guidance with tasks such as programming, organization, and the strategic approach to case work.

This is a highly selective experienced position. Applicants with less than five years of work experience should instead consider applying for the Consultant or Senior Consultant position.

Salary Scale:

Managers are paid an annual salary of between $128,800 and $154,500, subject to all required deductions and withholding, and not including the value of benefits under any Resolution Economics-maintained benefit plan. The Manager position is classified as exempt from overtime pay requirements under applicable federal and state law.

Responsibilities for this position will include:

  • Determining (through a review of legal documents and discussion with co-workers and counsel) the types of data required to address the claims at issue in a case
  • Formulating quantitative approaches to address the claims at issue in a case
  • Programming competently in SAS, including the use of advanced functionality (e.g. loops, arrays, macros, PROC SQL)
  • Understanding common data structures and formats
  • Evaluating the completeness and quality of data and devising approaches for dealing with data insufficiencies
  • Using EXCEL in a formula-driven way for computational and graphical purposes
  • Creating fully-linked, self-updating Excel models that incorporate user-selected parameters
  • Organizing data from multiple sources and proactively anticipating updates
  • Ensuring 100% accuracy of programs and output
  • Preparing write-ups, presentations, and exhibits to display or accompany quantitative findings
  • Communicating complex issues to a non-technical audience, including clients
  • Actively contributing to work at all levels within the life cycle of a project
  • Keeping Partners and Directors informed of work progress, delays, and potential issues
  • Managing and mentoring junior staff
  • Assisting with office recruiting and training efforts

Job Qualifications:

Skills and Abilities

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in validating, processing, and analyzing data (prior litigation consulting experience very strongly preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to write code in SAS and to conduct complex data analysis (additional programming languages a plus)
  • High proficiency in Excel, experience building dynamic exposure models a plus
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills for presenting work product to Directors, Partners, and clients

  • Ability to respectfully work in a team environment
  • Ability to balance several projects simultaneously
  • Understanding of economic damages and statistical concepts
  • General knowledge of labor and employment law and the legal framework is preferred
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule (occasional weekend/evening work may occur)
  • Above all, the ability to develop a sense of ownership and personal responsibility for each project you are assigned

Education and Work Experience
