Part of Global Medical Affairs, the Scientific Communication and Engagement (SC&E) team is a cross-functional group consisting of Scientific Communications, Medical Information, Medical Engagement and Learning & Development, whose purpose is to communicate scientific information using a Single Scientific Voice to support optimal patient outcomes​. This is achieved through working in multidisciplinary partnership at each stage of drug development. The Scientific Communications team is responsible for defining the Scientific Narrative for each product and for developing and driving Scientific Communication Strategy to disseminate scientific and clinical data. At the tactical level, Scientific Communications oversees the delivery of best-in-class publications, including but not limited to abstracts, posters, oral presentations, manuscripts and plain language summaries. SummaryThe Associate Director (AD) functions as a key member of the SC&E team, providing leadership within Scientific Communications to ensure high quality scientific outputs with appropriate utilization of resources. The AD will work with the Director of Scientific Communications to develop and implement scientific communication strategy, manage the scientific communication plan for assigned product and therapeutic areas, and oversee scientific messaging for marketed and clinical products.Responsibilities Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: Publication Strategy and Planning

Develop and ensure timely execution of the scientific communication plan for BioMarin's program in growth-related conditionsLead development of scientific messaging and maintain the Scientific Communication PlatformEnsure cross-functional alignment of messaging and strategies to address gapsDevelop expert knowledge of product- and disease-specific literature and oversee literature and gap analyses to support scientific message development and publication strategyOrganize and implement expert meetings necessary for publication strategy development; collaborate with colleagues and external experts to develop agenda and content, manage vendors, and attend and present as needed Support scientific congress activities including development of content for symposia Facilitate the external/independent development of treatment and management guidelines Publication Content Creation Research, draft, and edit scientific and medical manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and presentationsManage agency and/or contract medical writers and/or graphic designers, as neededEnsure all scientific communications outputs meet the highest standards of medical/scientific integrity Ensure activities adhere to authorship and publication guidelines as stipulated by ICMJE and GPP 2022Assist with maintenance and reconciliation activities within publication development database Other Respond to internal and external questions about any scientific communications for the product areaParticipate in cross-functional team meetings to share scientific communication planning status and issues and maintain awareness of overall scientific communication planProvide support for management of the Scientific Communications budget Education & Experience Advanced degree (MS or higher) in life or health sciences is required5 or more years of relevant experience in medical communications, publication planning and/or medical writing 2 or more years managing direct reports is preferred
