Position Summary

Reporting to the Digital Media Services Lead in the Digital Media Services Department, this position is responsible for completing and delivering video projects through a wide range of video delivery formats; responsible for live shoots of University events, student recitals, internal workshops, course content for online learning, and special events that may require collaboration with internal department and external vendors; reformatting and encoding a variety of video sources to make available for streaming and for archival purposes. The position requires the technician to remain current with industry best practices to possess an understanding of established procedures, and to apply skills and knowledge in multiple functions.

This is a non-benefited position not to exceed 1,000 hours in a calendar year.

Essential Functions

  • Schedules events, projects, and e-mail requests for A/V equipment checkout, Video Creation Studio requests, and live video productions.
  • Schedules and performs on-site camera operation for university events, workshops, classroom capture, course content for online learning, student recitals, and special events that may require collaboration with internal department and external vendors.
  • Produces postproduction content: Logs and captures camera media at required format and resolution; provides editing and dubbing of audio/video tapes; edits using professional software such as Adobe Creative Cloud or similar tools.
  • Supports Digital Production Services and Digital Media Center for video and audio reformatting. Provides back up as needed and helps determine the causes of technical problems and find solutions when appropriate.
  • Assists faculty, staff and students in the operations of A/V equipment. Performs proper recording techniques to ensure quality recordings. Operates controls to maintain correct sound levels for events. Provides information to principal users regarding policies and procedures for all media services.
  • Participates as a member of the department's team structure and performs other duties assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must be able to communicate with diplomacy, tact, and judgment.
  • Experience with Excel preferred.
  • Must be able to analyze, troubleshoot, organize work, set priorities, and develop possible solutions for problems.
  • Ability to prioritize work requests and be able to concentrate and not be distracted while performing task.
  • Good organizational skills, punctuality, and dependability.
  • Must be able to interact with all members of the University community.
  • Must be able to perform well under pressure and be able to change behavior in relation to other's actions.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, and/or 3 years of work experience or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience using Adobe Creative Suites and using Apple operating systems.
  • Prior customer service experience.
  • Prior experience with HD non-linear editing and Sony XDCAM and Cannon DSLR HD camera operations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 years of experience within a digital media, video, and computer equipment environment, preferably in a college or university environment.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in producing digital media and technology.
  • Experience with motion graphics/animations

Work Schedule

  • 10 – 20 hours a week. Hours will vary.
  • The position may require working irregular hours, including both weekends and evenings.

Hourly Range

The hourly range is $23.00 – 25.00.

The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate's sex or any other protected status.
