Overview



The Director, Assistant General Counsel works across the Novant Health System to oversee the preparation of legal documents. This role will align strategy with the overall goals of the organization.

Job Relationships: Reports to and receives assignments from the VP, Assistant General Counsel. Works closely with growth and transactional leaders with a focus on expanding Novant Health and its related entities' offerings.

Qualifications

  • Education: Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school, required.
  • Experience: Seven or more years of healthcare regulatory and transactional law experience, including complex healthcare transactions, required.
  • Licensure/Certification: Active license to practice law, in good standing with jurisdiction in which licensed, required.

    • · Operational Excellence: Exceptionally strong attention to project deadlines and details; broad-based experience to ensure organizational growth and advancement.
      · Executive presence: Has the ability to navigate and communicate effectively at a high level with top executives of the organization to collaborate and share ideas on a variety of items. Relied upon by senior leaders to deliver quality legal work and sound opinions
      · Efficiency: Must be able to juggle multiple projects with tight deadlines, with the ability to be flexible to meet clients' timelines, including non-traditional work hours
      · Problem Solving: Strong analytical, critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills
      · Highly Effective Communicator: Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, appropriately, and inclusively with key stakeholders at all levels. Ability to distill complex topics into crisp and concise narratives that can be consumed by audiences with varying degrees of familiarity with the subject matter.

      · Judgment: Demonstrated ability to act independently upon information and make decisions that achieve optimal results.
      · Confidentiality: Respects confidential information.
      · Broad healthcare transactional experience, including physician acquisitions, joint ventures, strategic partnerships and significant knowledge of healthcare operations.
      · Deep experience with Stark, the Antic-kickback statute and applicable antitrust regulations.

Responsibilities

· Work alongside team members to monitor and evolve practices for continuous process improvement.


· Oversee specialized legal areas such as mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, and other strategic partnerships; value-based enterprises; private equity and direct investment; and other transactional support.


· Develop policies, practices, and procedures that have a significant impact on the organization.
