Conducts American Council on Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE) continuing education classes and serves as a lecturer for pharmacy students. Reviews, discusses, and classifies all drug information responses completed by subordinate pharmacists.
EducationBachelor's degree from an accredited college of pharmacy and residency Required orDoctoral degree from an accredited college of pharmacy and residency Experience5-7 years of hospital experience (with at least 4 years in a specialized area) Required or Completion of PGY-1 and PGY-2 pharmacy residency Required or Completion of a PGY-1 plus 2 years of direct patient care experience in a specialized area Required Licenses and CertificationsPHARMD - Licensed Pharmacist in the District of Columbia or eligibility for reciprocity Required Board certification in area of specialty Required Evaluates therapeutic options and provides clinical guidance to staff, clinical level I and II pharmacists, residents, and residents. Monitors drug therapy and develops patient care plans of assigned patients.Responds to evaluative and non-evaluative drug information requests and reviews evaluative drug information responses made by subordinate pharmacists to assure recommendations relating to modifications to the drug therapy incorporates newest patient data with valid explanation to use alternative strategy.Performs all distributive and patient care functions of subordinate clinical pharmacists as required. Identifies and eliminates therapeutic duplications and recommends cost-effective alternatives to prescribers.Provides functional management for support personnel. Monitors attendance and work quality, organizes and prioritizes resources based on workload and productivity, and directs workflow of support personnel. Ensures departmental time frames are met.Assures compliance of prescribers with clinical practice guidelines, minimizes non formulatory drug use, and assists subordinate pharmacists with appropriate recommendations.Precepts pharmacy student and residents according to the individual school criteria and departmental guidelines.Communicates with the Associate Director of pharmacy regarding the clinical programs/educational material. Facilitates and promotes departmental educational goals.Plans, prepares and presents American Council on Pharmaceutical Education ACPE) approved lectures to pharmacy staff and outside groups.Participates in departmental research activities.
