Overview:
FHI 360 has an exciting internship opportunity for a student interested in growing their skills within the international development sector.
Under close supervision, an Intern will perform entry level professional duties which will provide the opportunity for professional training in various functional areas throughout the organization.
Internship assignments serve to offer practical experience and broad exposure to a global nonprofit development organization.
This Intern will serve in the Strategy, Innovation and Evidence Office, one of two offices housed directly within the Office of the CEO.
Our team leads strategy development, and we advance innovation, corporate measurement, evidence, and organizational learning to achieve FHI 360's strategic ambition.
Led by the Chief Strategy and Evidence Officer, our team includes multiple Senior Advisors, a Strategy Manager, a Business Data Analyst, and a Communications Specialist.
Our team is supporting the implementation of FHI 360's FY23-25 strategy while also preparing for the development of FHI 360's subsequent strategy.
In addition to strategy planning and development, our team develops metrics and processes for tracking internal business performance and social impact against the current strategy and deepening our understanding of thematic priority areas.
Our team also promotes learning activities and the use of evidence, across the organization and externally, to further strengthen FHI 360's role as a leading research organization.
The intern will support these activities by contributing research and analysis.
Their work will cover themes related to global inequality, social cohesion, health threats, humanitarian crises, and the development industry's future.
Support will also include developing blog posts for the R&E Search for Evidence blog.This is a paid internship with a flexible schedule based on project needs.

The intern should be available to meet the team in FHI 360's Washington, DC office at least once a week.
Pay Rate: $18.00/hour for interns with undergraduate degrees, $ /hour for master's students and recent graduates.
Skills Gained and Learning Opportunities:
- Contribute to organizationwide frameworks and products related to strategy, innovation, evidence, and corporate measurement;
- Conduct qualitative and quantitative data analysis;
- Support initiatives related to FHI 360's 3year strategy;
- Build writing skills and publish two or more blog posts for the R&E Search for Evidence blog;
- Become familiar with new research and evidence in multiple human development sectors through reading and webinars;
- Receive shadowing, mentoring, and training opportunities with Strategy, Innovation, and Evidence Office team members;
- Gain practical experience working with an interdisciplinary team within a large, global nonprofit organization.

Assignment Details:
The intern may contribute to various team or project activities under the direction of their supervisor in the following ways:
- Provide research assistance to collect and analyze qualitative and quantitative data;
- Conduct systematic reviews of scientific literature, project reports, and external evaluations;
- Interpret findings across multiple sources to generate insights and recommendations for the organization;
- Work with dashboards, tools, and data/knowledge repositories to review and summarize findings;
- Create charts, graphs, and other visual representations of information;
- Write report sections, blog posts, and social media material;
- Present to internal stakeholders on work conducted, summarizing results and drawing insights.
Qualifications and Competencies:
- Recent graduate or undergraduate, or currently enrolled in a graduate program at a college or university in a social science or other relevant field of study;
- Proven writing and analytical skills as demonstrated by research papers or other analytical writing samples;
- Demonstrated advanced skills in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, including data analysis in Excel;
- Demonstrated research experience, which may include research papers produced as part of advanced coursework, but should not be limited to website citations;
- Familiarity with program evaluation methods and especially experimental and quasiexperimental impact evaluation methods, gained through program evaluation coursework or research experience;
- Familiarity with one or more of FHI 360's topical areas of focus whether in the United States or in global development as demonstrated by university coursework, research papers, or past professional experience;
- Reliability to complete tasks in a remote work environment, and ability to prioritize tasks and troubleshoot problems, as demonstrated by prior work or education experience;
- Demonstrated ability to communicate in a clear, positive manner with external stakeholders and colleagues;
- Energetic and eager to tackle new projects and ideas;
- Fluent in English.
