We believe that inclusion helps us thrive and grow at United across our collaborative Finance teams consisting of Financial Planning & Analysis, Internal Audit, Treasury, Global Procurement, Controllership, Investor Relations and more. These teams provide the financial fuel that keeps our operation running from providing detailed analyses of financial planning, performance, and forecasts to managing our investments and financial strategies. Our Finance team plays an integral role in making our airline profitable and successful by meeting our financial goals.

Key Responsibilities:

The Global Procurement (GP) organization at United Airlines is responsible for procuring goods and services and developing/maintaining relationships with third-party providers with the objective of reducing total cost and risk to the company while improving levels of quality, service, and technology.

The role is responsible for providing data driven insights, using continuous data structure improvements, data engineering, data mapping, and applying relevant tools and dashboards to deliver special projects. The objective of this role is to support the entire Global Procurement organization with third-party spend analytics and specific data process improvement projects. Projects such as development of spend cube, supplier diversity data analysis, data modeling and scenario planning.

This role requires strong data analytical skills, hands on experience with analytical tools and methods, project management experience, and ability to present significant insights from data. Additionally, it requires critical thinking and strong internal/external partner relationship building and strong cross functional collaboration. This role will have direct managerial responsibility of analysts in United's offshore India office.

Develop third-party spend analytics data structure
  • Develop and/or re-engineer current data structure and apply necessary automation to support three main objectives: the completeness, accuracy, and reliability of data
  • Identify and understand the information workflow and data behind different platforms, and suggest improvements towards data efficiency
  • Identify appropriate tools for advanced data engineering and spend analysis, by applying Foundry, Oracle, or Coupa AIC
  • Create and develop reports/dashboards by applying appropriate visualization tools
  • Apply data to provide significant insights for partners in procurement and cross functions
Lead and apply information workflow processes
  • Leverage data from variety of sources of the organization, and improve the information workflow
  • Find system and process gaps, while communicating solutions and standard methodologies to fix them
  • Work closely with cross functions to establish appropriate information workflow and improve data efficiency
  • Work closely with IT and business operation partners to ensure that data is complete and accurate, so to serve the right purpose
Partner management
  • Work with internal and external partners and support them with their data analytic requirements
  • Partner and collaborate extensively with the Business Diversity team to make sure they are well served with their data requirements
  • Lead business relationships effectively with all key partners across Business Divisions
Team management
  • Lead and/or mentor team, provide guidance and valuable input on all mentioned responsibilities
  • Train and develop individuals and all team members on spend data analysis and relevant tools
  • Participate in hiring processes
  • This is a hybrid position reporting to the Corporate Support Center in Chicago, IL.

Qualifications
What's needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):
  • Bachelor's degree (Computer science, information technology, engineering, economics, statistics, finance, or another business-related field)
  • 5+ years of data analytics in mentioned business fields
  • Highly analytical with excellent problem-solving skills
  • Expertise with data engineering tools such as SQL, FQL (Foundry), and programming concepts
  • Experienced working with large datasets, ability to tell a story using data
  • Proficient working with data visualization tools such as Power BI, Spotfire, Tableau
  • Passionate about data analytics and transformative for how it can be applied
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Highly structured with attention to details, and result oriented
  • Excellent oral communication and people skills
  • Strong organization and project leadership skills, and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to proactively lead partner expectations on current and future business needs
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
