Clinical Laboratory Technician – PRL

In this exciting role as a Clinical Laboratory Technician, you will perform veterinary and preclinical study support at Healthcare PRL.

By virtue of experience and expertise, the technician will be able to perform all routine clinical laboratory related activities. The candidate will conduct all work in accordance with company and government regulations.

A Day in the Life

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

Independent work:
Performs in–house testing within the Clinical Laboratory on various specimens from multiple species.

Must–have areas include Hematology, Chemistry, and Coagulation. Urinalysis, Parasitology, and Serology areas are nice–to–have skills.

Responsible for handling the processing of specimens for reference laboratory testing assuring specimen collection, temperature, storage, and shipping requirements are followed.


Implements archival of raw data and clinical laboratory records in compliance with GLP, Universal Precautions, and Laboratory Safety.

Executes all QA/QC programs in compliance with GLP requirements.

Performs troubleshooting measures on instrumentation as needed.

Performs in–house QC measures, records QC results and implements corrective action measures as needed.

Maintains clinical laboratory inventory, order supplies, and rotates stock.

Maintains laboratory notebooks, report forms, logs, and documents of compliance.

Use universal precautions and laboratory safety.

Develop processes and methods aimed at improving efficiencies and expanding capabilities and expertise.

Work towards personal and facility goals and objectives.

Communicate with PRL customers to meet their needs.

Use technical expertise for troubleshooting and problem solving related to job function.

Support a cross–functional team.

Approximately 9 am to 5:50pm (Monday–Friday) is the working hours. May be supporting occasional (

Follow applicable SOPs and documentation.

Complete training on time.

Physical requirements:
Physically able to lift/carry and push/pull 50 pounds.

Perform work requiring visual acuity, manual dexterity, and hand–eye coordination.

Able to stand for long periods of time (6 hours).

Able to tolerate exposure to laboratory chemical/solvents.

Able to wear safety goggles, gloves, a respirator and a gown.

Employee is regularly required to be independently mobile.

Must Have (Minimum Requirements):

High School Diploma.

Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification by ASCP.

Minimum of 0–2 years of clinical laboratory experience.

Nice to Have (Preferred Qualifications):
Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) certification by ASCP

Recognizes unexpected results, errors, and problems with patient samples based on broad knowledge of medical and scientific techniques.

Perform equipment qualifications when supplier does not provide this service.

Working knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).

Working in a Preclinical environment.

Working in the medical device industry.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned. Performs a variety of technical procedures such as preparing routine solutions and reagents and performing routine reactions. Makes and records observations; performs simple calculations; and collects and prepares data for evaluation.

Conducts laboratory support functions such as stocking and distributing supplies and equipment; arranging and dismantling apparatus; and collecting, washing, and storing glassware.

Performs technical and record keeping duties in conformance with company and regulatory policies and standards to meet quality and accuracy requirements.

May analyze compounds and manage corporate compound collection.

Performs technical procedures in one or more of the following areas:
Production, Research and Development, Quality Control/Assurance, and/or Compliance/Environmental

TECHNICIAN SUPPORT CAREER STREAM:
Provides technical support in areas such as production, operations, maintenance, safety, testing, process improvement or product development.

Uses schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions or defined plans to perform testing and troubleshooting on electronic or mechanical components, equipment or systems.

Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical data using established formulae and procedures, and performs detailed mathematical calculations. For higher levels, may suggest and/or make improvements to optimize work processes.

Seasoned individual contributor, working under limited supervision, and providing assistance and training to lower level employees. Runs minor projects, including performing tests, interpreting data, developing reports.

Required Knowledge and Experience:
Requires complete and broad knowledge of operational systems, techniques and practices typically Producted through extensive experience and/or education.

Requires minimum of 4 years of relevant experience; may require vocational or technical education or certification in addition to prior work experience.
