POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Detroit Tigers organization is currently looking for a skilled Full Stack Software Engineer to join their software development team in Baseball Operations. As part of this team, you will contribute to applications utilized by front office staff, coaches, and players to enhance performance at all levels of the organization. Reporting to the Director of Baseball Systems, you will play a crucial role in the development and maintenance of internal software applications.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Collaborate with engineering and data teams to create and sustain internal software applications.
  • Assist in establishing an efficient software development ecosystem by implementing process improvements and best practices.
  • Write clean, concise, and effective code across the entire technology stack.
  • Develop and execute test cases.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve software issues promptly.
  • Integrate baseball analytics into proprietary tools and applications.
  • Execute additional tasks as directed by Baseball Operations leadership.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • BS in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in developing web applications in a professional setting.
  • Proficiency in full-stack development, with expertise in at least one layer.
  • Professional background in modern web front-end development and a single-page web application framework.
  • Proficiency in Java backend development or similar.
  • Proven ability to design, develop, and interact with RESTful APIs.
  • Experience with medium-to-large-scale relational databases and SQL.
  • Familiarity with DevOps tools and practices.
  • Experience deploying and managing cloud-based web applications.
  • Capability to engage in all stages of the software development lifecycle.
  • Readiness to acquire new skills as needed.
  • Capacity to handle diverse workloads efficiently.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Proficiency in Angular/AngularJS.
  • Experience with Java and the Spring-boot framework.
  • Knowledge of C#.
  • Experience with JavaScript visualization tools like D3 or Plotly.
  • Understanding of User Experience principles.
  • Familiarity with Azure.
  • Prior exposure to sports industry or sports data, especially baseball, statistical methods, and sabermetrics.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Primarily office-based with potential for remote work.
  • Flexibility required for occasional evening, weekend, and holiday assignments.
