This position is a hybrid role and it is required to be on-site 2-3 days each week at one of the following locations: Chevy Chase, MD, Fredericksburg, VA, Macon, GA or Indianapolis, IN.

POSITION OBJECTIVE:

This role will be leading a team of designers responsible for creating innovative and intuitive digital products that deliver best-in-class user experience and usability to our customers and internal associates. You will oversee a wide spectrum of activities, from discovery and research, through definition, ideation and design, and the delivery of interactive prototypes and high-fidelity designs to our engineering partners. The ideal candidate will have a track record of envisioning, designing, and delivering successful customer experiences.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads, manages and grows a team of designers. Coaches mentors and develops associate design skills and practices.
  • Owns design projects from conception to delivery.
  • Designs, conducts and synthesizes user research activities and addresses usability issues.
  • Creates user journeys, wireframes, detailed UX flows, prototypes, UI mockups, sketches, visuals, decks, and explanations. Promotes understanding and alignment with cross functional teams.
  • Identifies and manages risk to ensure timelines are met. Escalates where needed.
  • Identifies and articulates design and technical conflicts between senior stakeholders and partners. Drives resolutions.
  • Drives design decisions based on data from user metrics as well as qualitative interviews.
  • Communicates design concepts to a range of stakeholders and audiences.
  • Initiates ideas and solutions beyond the product roadmap to improve the overall experience for our users.
  • Prepares and manages department business plans, staffing projections and budgets.

CANDIDATE BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be able to follow complex instructions, resolve conflicts or facilitate conflict resolution, and have strong organization/priority setting skills
  • Must be able to multi-task
  • Must be able to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information
  • Must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Must have the following education and experience:
    • At least 10 years of experience in UX/UI design, product design, or experience design
    • 5+ years of experience building, growing & managing teams
    • Bachelor's/University degree, Master's degree preferred
    • Prior experience designing customer experiences and platform experiences across device types and viewports, including web and native mobile (iOS & Android) experiences
    • Exceptional communication and presentation skills
    • Strong skills in professional design tools e.g. Figma, AdobeXD, Axure
