Description

The HR Specialist is a key player in managing our workforce and ensuring the smooth operation of HR functions within our distribution and manufacturing facilities. They are responsible for a wide range of duties including recruitment, training, employee relations, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll, Time and Attendance
• Enters employee data into the HRIS system; this includes data on new employees, employee address changes, pay changes, department and allocation changes, and deductions and benefits.
• Maintains temporary employee data, partnering with temporary agencies, and assists managers with temporary employee needs.
• Completes verifications of employment on current and terminated employees. Responds to employment verification for loans, unemployment, new employers, etc.
• Files employee paperwork in the appropriate files.
• Coordinates leave administration.
• Tracks attendance and distributes incentives.
• Assists in maintaining personnel, insurance, and/or workers' compensation files.
Recruitment and Talent Management: Develop and implement strategies to attract and retain skilled labor, addressing the unique challenges of the manufacturing sector. This includes partnering with educational institutions, offering competitive benefits, and providing clear career advancement opportunities.
Onboarding and Training: Facilitate comprehensive orientation programs and training plans tailored to the manufacturing environment, ensuring new hires are well-prepared and integrated into the team.
Employee Relations and Performance Management: Serve as the primary HR point of contact for employee concerns, fostering a positive work environment and addressing issues promptly. Conduct performance evaluations and support employee development initiatives.
Employee Engagement:
- Partner with leadership to develop and implement strategies to measure and improve employee engagement.
- Analyze engagement survey results and collaborate with management to create action plans for improvement.
- Facilitate focus groups and workshops to address employee concerns and gather feedback.
- Coordinate and oversee employee recognition programs to boost morale and retention.
- Partner with leadership to align engagement initiatives with organizational goals and values.
- Monitor and report on the effectiveness of engagement strategies to HR leadership.

Skills and Abilities
• Understands relevant laws affecting human resources and payroll, including but not limited to safety, medical and military leave, payroll, HIPAA, payroll, etc.
• Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), workers' compensation laws, insurance and benefits laws, or other state or federal laws.
• Effectively communicates information and responds to questions in person-to-person and small group situations with customers, clients, the general public, and other employees of the organization.
• Maintains confidentiality and uses discretion with business and personal information.
• Reads and understands documents such as policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Writes routine reports and correspondence.
• Adds, subtracts, multiplies, and divides numbers (using currency and other forms of measurement).
• Provides accurate work on a consistent basis.
• Utilizes common-sense understanding in order to carry out written, oral, or diagrammed instructions.
• Deals with problems involving several known variables in situations of routine nature.
• Plans the time, method, manner, and/or performance sequence of own work.
• Frequently makes decisions and verifies major decisions with supervisor before proceeding.
• Completes some moderately repetitive tasks.
• Uses noncomplex machines and equipment (adding machines, calculators, copy/fax machines, etc.)
• Proven HR experience, with a strong foundation in employee relations, hourly recruitment, conflict resolution, and problem-solving.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on active listening and effective execution of HR practices.

Education and Experience
- Equivalent of four years of high school (required).
- One to two years of relevant education or experience in human resources, payroll, benefits, or a related field (required).
- Relevant HR certifications (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR) are preferred.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment is highly desirable.
Computer Skills
- Intermediate: Alphanumeric data entry, Microsoft Office suite.
- Basic: Word processing/ typing, payroll systems, human resource systems.
