ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:
The Department of Mathematical Sciences consists of 27 tenured and tenure-track faculty members with strong expertise in the areas of algebra and combinatorics, fixed point theory, statistics, bioinformatics, computational science, topology, data science and applied mathematics. Notable accomplishments of the productive faculty include publication of high-impact peer-reviewed manuscripts and annual research expenditures of $1.5m. An exciting development for the Department is the establishment of a Data Science PhD program that started in 2021. The Department also contributes to interdisciplinary programs across the university including the Bioinformatics and Computational Science graduate programs in the College of Science. Lastly, UTEP is consistently ranked in the top ten by Diverse Issues in Higher Education for Mathematics and Statistics degrees conferred to Hispanic undergraduate and master's students. Regarding this hire, there is considerable interest and potential for using artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) for integrating molecular biomarkers with social determinants of health to understand risk factors for disease and complexities of health disparities. With the UTEP Center for Integrative and Translational Research (CITR) as a primary data repository, the addition of a renowned, experienced senior investigator will position UTEP at the forefront of AI-driven predictive modeling and precision medicine to improve public health outcomes and inequities.
Job Description:
The Department of Mathematical Sciences at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) is seeking a Health Data Artificial Intelligence/Predictive Modelling researcher with senior level expertise in statistical modeling for big data and/or high-performance data analytics for a tenured position at the Full Professor level for the Regents' Research Excellence Program. Successful candidates are expected to have developed a productive research program, mentored, and taught at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and directed Ph.D. dissertations. Candidates with experience in industry and/or applied interdisciplinary research projects are also encouraged to apply. Anticipated appointment date is fall 2025.
Requirements:
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in statistics, data science, mathematics or a related field, expertise in using AI and ML for predictive modelling with health data, a strong record of research accomplishments and record of securing extramural funding.
