University Police Services, Southern Command invites applications for Publications Writer, University Police Services, [R0140942]. We appreciate your interest in employment at our growing division.

ROLE of the POSITION

University Police Services is conducting a recruitment for a Publications Writer. Under direction, this position will perform a variety of communication and outreach tasks in the Business Services section of University Police Services. This position will be responsible for assisting with the development and maintenance of department websites, creation and dissemination of public service campaigns, outreach presentations, paid advertising campaigns, press releases, campus communications, community outreach, social media campaigns, and brochures/literature. This position will also be tasked with department photography and videography efforts and will occasionally supervise the department's front desk operations.

This position exercises good judgement and discretion when sharing communications on behalf of the department and/or the Vice President and Director, posting to online social media accounts, dissemination of marketing and media products that their actions must present an accurate image of the department and its personnel. This position must maintain the highest level of professionalism, respect, and courteous disposition in all interactions with the public, campus community, law-enforcement organizations, and stakeholders.

This position must work independently and to work effectively with limited supervision and is expected to take charge of their work responsibilities and display ingenuity in anticipating/meeting expectation and unexpected situations as well as being judicious in carrying out assignments without discretion. Final distribution of all materials must not occur without expressed authorization of the supervisor throughout the probationary period; these procedures will be re-evaluated as needed.

DEPARTMENT INFORMATION

The department is a full-service police department comprised of patrol operations, administration, police dispatch and a detective division. Services include a canine program, walking and bicycle patrols, and a pro-active, selective traffic enforcement program and takes a leadership role in preparing the University to respond to large-scale crises and events. The department consists of 80 employees (42 full-time sworn officers, 10 sworn part-time, 8 non-sworn part-time, 24 students, and 20 full & part-time civilian support staff). PROFILE

The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) was established in 1865 and is currently comprised of two doctoral-granting universities, a state college, four comprehensive community colleges and one environmental research institute. The public system of higher education in Nevada is governed by the Board of Regents serving over 100,000 students and 15,000 employees.

University Police Services, Southern Command, is a full service category I law enforcement agency that serves the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, the College of Southern Nevada, the Desert Research Institute and Nevada State College. The department consists of 163 employees and has responsibility for the public safety needs of 80,000 students, faculty and staff over an 800 square mile service area. Law enforcement operations consists of 80 full and part time sworn peace officers, a full service 9-1-1 Center, K-9 operations; emergency management operations with a fully functional EOC and oversight of major special events hosting more than a million visitors a year to various events.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in communications, English, journalism, public relations or closely related field and one year of experience writing, editing, preparing and disseminating information for publication through print and/or digital media; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of experience as described above; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

This position should have experience and familiarity with: DSLR camera, videocamera, and various types of computer software such as Adobe Creative Suites, Microsoft Office, Google Analytics & Google Suites, Hootsuite, and Workday.

This position have working knowledge of and be able to adhere to all federal laws, Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS), Nevada Administrative Codes (NAC), NSHE Board of Regent policies, memorandum of understanding (MOU's), and department policies. SALARY

Grade 31 Step 1, salary $ 49, "Step" means the number assigned by the Division of Human Resource Management to identify a specific rate of pay within a grade. Per Nevada Administrative Code (NAC , salaries for initial appointments for classified positions typically begin at Step 1.
