Job Purpose
Responsible for routine to complex actuarial processes and projects in product development, financial modeling, financial reporting, risk analysis, or data analysis assignments, as applicable. Performs activities related to the application of advanced actuarial principles for insurance/finance.
Essential Responsibilities
- Actively participates in small team meetings and cross-functional team meetings.
- Manages own time and work with manager to set priorities, set deadlines and share project status.
- Communicates with peers and manager, orally and in writing, using such tools as email and Microsoft Teams.
- Composes reports presenting analysis to management.
- Recommends and either implement or peer review changes to the coding and structure of actuarial tools, as assigned.
- Completes processes for production of actuarial output, such as calculated reserves, cash flow projections, product pricing, experience data, etc.
- Follows procedures and executes controls for production processes.
- Analyzes and validates actuarial output.
- Studies material and sits for actuarial exams (or complete modules) in accordance with the Education Program.
- Mentors and trains junior associates to perform processes.
Other Duties
- Performs other duties and/or projects as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to apply all foundational actuarial mathematics/concepts to work product.
- Working knowledge of Jackson's insurance product lines (life, annuities).
- Advanced experience in a key field of Actuarial work (pricing, financial reporting, data analysis or modeling).
- Advanced knowledge of Excel. Ability to program in SAS, Python, or similar language and to make complex updates to actuarial models or programs.
- Ability to guide others in following processes and running actuarial models or programs.
- Ability to troubleshoot issues with process results/output.
- Ability to effectively communicate with manager and team members verbally and in written form.
- Ability to write effective formal reports for actuarial management and participate in cross-function team meetings.
- Ability to apply creativity and deductive reasoning to solve problems and improve processes.
- Ability to perform peer review of processes.
- Ability to work on multiple projects and prioritize work based on general guidance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, or related field of study required.
- 2+ years of actuarial experience required or 4+ years of actuarial experience preferred.
- Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) or near ASA with 4+ years of relevant actuarial experience required.
- Commitment to attaining the Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) designation preferred.
