Job Description
About the Role:
The role is within the Screening R&D group, focusing on the development of computational models for early cancer screening, minimal residual disease detection, and molecular response products, including ShieldTM and RevealTM. We seek a dedicated professional eager to make a meaningful impact in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. The ideal candidate will be a team-oriented individual, proficient in clear communication, and comfortable discussing and receiving feedback on projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop, prototype, and analyze novel statistical/machine learning models to further improve early cancer detection
- Investigate data in model free contexts integrating fundamental statistical and visualization techniques and biological knowledge to derive insights
- Work with other team members to contribute to infrastructure utilized by the research and development teams
- Work with cross-functional teams to discuss product development and strategy
- Participate in brainstorming sessions, maintaining a highly productive and motivating work environment
- Identify relevant external genomic and epigenomic data sources and integrate with internal data to improve product performance and suggest new product features
- Provide written documentation and specifications for transparency and reproducibility
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in computational biology/bioinformatics, genomics, machine learning, or related fields with 4+ years of industry experience.
- Experienced with statistical techniques and ML modeling for genomic/epigenomic data (e.g. PCA, binomial/poisson distributions, multivariate regression, hypothesis testing, Bayesian inference)
- Experienced in visualization of complex experiments to derive biological insights
- Proficiency with python and data-science tools including SciPy, NumPy, Pandas, and Jupyter; Experience with one of Seaborn/Plotly/Altair; either Streamlit/Dash, SQL, and Airflow are pluses.
Preferred
- Cancer biology and/or epigenetics background
- Experience in blood-based diagnostics is a plus
- Experience in analyzing public genomic/epigenomic datasets (e.g. TCGA, ENCODE)
- Proficiency with Linux command-line and version control tools (Conda/Mamba, Git, GitHub)
- Ability to build reproducible and well-written code (or packages) for data analysis
- Familiar with high-performance computing infrastructures (e.g., SLURM, AWS, Spark)
Additional Information
Hybrid Work Model: At Guardant Health, we have defined days for in-person/onsite collaboration and work-from-home days for individual-focused time. All U.S. employees who live within 50 miles of a Guardant facility will be required to be onsite on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. We have found aligning our scheduled in-office days allows our teams to do the best work and creates the focused thinking time our innovative work requires. At Guardant, our work model has created flexibility for better work-life balance while keeping teams connected to advance our science for our patients.
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $102,000 to $163,200. The range does not include benefits, and if applicable, bonus, commission, or equity. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries across all US locations for the posted role with the exception of any locations specifically referenced below (if any).
For positions based in Palo Alto, CA or Redwood City, CA, the base salary range for this full-time position is $136,000 to $183,600. The range does not include benefits, and if applicable, bonus, commission, or equity.
Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including, but not limited to, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. If you are selected to move forward, the recruiting team will provide details specific to the factors above.
Employee may be required to lift routine office supplies and use office equipment. Majority of the work is performed in a desk/office environment; however, there may be exposure to high noise levels, fumes, and biohazard material in the laboratory environment.
