You will be a key member of an aggressive population development and trait integration team within a growth chamber facility to develop improved varieties. Your main responsibilities will be leading chamber operations through the day-to-day management of full-time and contingent employees in support of experiment execution. You will also assist with workload scheduling, metrics tracking, inventory management, and plant experiment management.

Responsibilities - What You'll Do:

  • Lead day to day growth chamber activities ensuring work is prioritized, completed efficiently, and Standard Operating Procedures are followed.
  • Supervise contingent workers including hiring and onboarding.
  • Oversee the training of full-time and contingent employees.
  • Assist with workload scheduling, metrics tracking, inventory management, and other operations tasks as assigned.
  • Execute growth chamber experiments including preparation, planting, pollinating, DNA sampling, daily plant care, data collection and management, and communication with internal project leads.
  • Ability to safely operate research equipment such as threshers, forklift, truck and trailer
  • Maintain facility cleanliness and contribute to process improvement experimentation and implementation.

Qualifications

Education & Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in agriculture, horticulture, biology or related fields and 2-4 years of industry related experience preferred
  • 2 years minimum experience with people management preferred.
  • Experience propagating plants in field, greenhouse or growth chamber environments

  • Pay close attention to detail and follow standard operating and safety/ergonomics protocols is essential

  • Prioritize work on multiple projects and delegate responsibilities to others as needed to meet deadlines.
  • Creatively solve problems, implement solutions, and foster a culture of continuous operational excellence

  • Self-motivated, proactive, and adaptable
  • Must be able to stand and sit for long periods of time and lift a minimum of 15 pounds. Must be able to tolerate hours of repetitive work in a warm, humid environment with pollen present year-round
