As an Agricultural Research Specialist, you will provide operational support and day-to-day management of corn and soybean product development, characterization, and commercialization programs at the Orange City, IA, Research Center. You will be involved in all phases of planning, growing, phenotyping, and harvesting research materials to meet pre-commercial product advancement, nursery pollination, and data quality goals. Adopting and implementing evolving technologies and methodologies that enhance and improve corn and soybean product development.

Responsibilities - What You'll Do:

  • Conduct field experiments through to completion according to specific protocols, exercising independent judgment and discretion as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with local and departmental staff to collect timely data and summarize results of experiments, noting problem areas during data collection and recommending actions to be taken where needed.
  • Utilize expertise to develop leadership roles within corn and soybean yield test activities.
  • Engage with the local team to support station assignments, efficient work planning, and process improvement.
  • Organize and supervise part-time and temporary employees. Communicate procedures and expectations to data collection personnel.
  • Leadership in site safety culture and ensuring adherence to safety standards.

Qualifications

Requirements: What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in agricultural/biological sciences or a minimum of 2 years of field research experience.
  • Competitive compensation based on previous experience/education.
  • Strong team player - we are a multi-crop research center, so the successful candidate will work across crops and assigned projects.
  • Experience operating field equipment is desired (planters, combines, sprayers etc.)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot and diagnose equipment issues.
  • Ability to obtain the FAA Part 107 drone license is a plus.
  • Ability to obtain a commercial pesticide license is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, adept at using standard software programs and learning internal data systems.
  • Proven ability to adapt to evolving technology and data collection methodologies.
  • Flexibility to work extended days and weekends during critical times of the season.
  • Willingness to perform physical lifting and work in varying environments.
  • A valid driver's license is required. The ability to operate a Commercial Motor Vehicle for trailer towing is preferred.
  • Keep in mind, that equivalent amounts of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of the above requirements
