JOB PURPOSE: Provides quality support to assigned production operations to ensure the integrity of components and products produced. Drives quality improvement efforts in assigned areas with the goal of achieving "zero defect" performance, supports process improvement and problem-solving efforts with the focus on protecting and improving product quality.
MEASUREMENT FACTORS: Proactive, timely, accurate, effective, to proper standards or procedures.
Key Job Element
Performance Standards
Assure product, process, and system quality requirements are determined, planned for and achieved during new product development, launch, or at design or process change. Utilizes Change Management System for all product or process changes.
Develops a complete understanding and assures deployment of Quality System, Quality Plan, and customer requirements. Conveys these requirements and systems to assigned product teams and assures they are met.
Proactively leads or participates in all product development and launch team activities including: design reviews, DFMEA reviews, DCP reviews, customer visits, supplier visits, DV testing reviews, and PV testing.
Assures all quality related tasks such as control plans, work instructions, capability studies, inspection/audit procedures, gages and inspection/test equipment, etc. satisfy project needs, internal quality system, and customer requirements.
Provides support for or champions Change Management System requirements as evidenced by thorough evaluation and planning, responsive input, effective controls, clear communication, timely completion of assignments, appropriate reporting, and system improvement.
Supervises and provides direction and support to daily activities for assigned Quality Technicians and Auditors.
Problems investigated, defined, analyzed and resolved effectively and responsively.
Proactively leads or participates in and supports team-based Problem Solving Process as evidenced by proactive identification, effective containment, creative idea generation, application of sound statistical methods and analysis, root cause determination, solution proposal, aggressive implementation, and timely and effective implementation of tasks to prevent recurrence.
Develops product and process awareness aggressively to ensure decision making and problem solving direction is sound and effective.
Management and appropriate company personnel to be kept abreast of progress until resolution and total incorporation of corrections.
First Time Quality reports compiled and distributed as required. Data to be utilized to aggressively attack causal factors for product and process failures.
Performs assignments within required time frames. Prepares reports or other documents in a professional manner with the degree of accuracy and detail required.
Process Control Plans to be developed, implemented, and updated as necessary to meet all standards, specifications, drawing, and process requirements.
Test, teardown, repair, inspection, and final audit procedures established, implemented, and controlled.
Test stand qualification studies performed, correlation to be established and maintained. Limit bands developed as required.
Product Team’s needs supported.
Daily and ongoing work assignments to be directed by the Production Manager and Quality Engineering Supervisor. Conflicts in direction or in determining priorities of assignments to be brought to their attention for resolution.
Platform team objectives such as cycle time improvement, inventory reduction, scrap reduction, MRO costs, labor costs, customer satisfaction requirements, or other objectives to be effectively supported within prescribed time frames.
Positive working relations and effective communications to be established and maintained with all department and platform team personnel.
Product and process quality assured and continuously improved; records maintained.
Monitors trends of customer and platform team measurables. Proactively leads or participates in improvement actions. Keeps management informed of status regarding product/process/system concerns or improvement initiatives. Keeps customers informed of improvement plans and improvement initiatives to continuously improve quality and warranty performance and reduce product costs.
Assists in identifying opportunities, developing proposals, providing training for and implementing mistake proofing throughout the manufacturing process.
All records to be maintained per customer, government, company, or quality system requirements.
Provides direction and guidance to production and support departments of plant quality systems requirements.
Dimensional, machine, gage, and process capabilities to be determined as required. Results to be properly communicated and appropriate reactions taken.
Product/process improvement and cost reduction proposals generated or supported, and aggressively pursued until completion and incorporation. Kaizen initiatives to be effectively supported.
Product durability and validation testing scheduled and completed as required. Test results reviewed, maintained, and properly reported. Action steps to be taken to properly address test results which are unacceptable.
Is proficient in the usage of personal computers and associated software. Continually improves these skills to more efficiently perform job duties.
Assists Supplier Quality Assurance interaction with supplier contacts as necessary to assure component part quality. Travels to supplier facilities as necessary.

POSITION INFORMATION
EDUCATION, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering/Technology.
- Above average verbal and written communication skills.
- Above average organizational skills.
- Above average PC Skills: Operating Systems (Windows), MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint),
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of Quality Engineering experience in the automotive industry

- Manufacturing principles and methods
- Manufacturing processes: FMEA, APQP, PPAP, MSA, Process Flow, Corrective Action Process, etc.
- Problem Solving Methodologies (5-Why, 8D, etc.)
