Primary Function:

Under the direction of the Principal and designated teacher, assists the teacher in the preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements.


Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and state/local board policies.
  • Assist teachers in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
  • Work with individual students or small groups to conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher.
  • Assist in administering and scoring objective testing instruments and work assignments.
  • Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students.
  • Supervise students throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Assist with inventory, care, and maintenance of classroom equipment.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
  • Support the teacher in keeping administrative records and preparing required reports.
  • Check and record student attendance.
  • Participate in in-service training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as needed.
  • Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  • Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information as expected of fully licensed teachers.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible behavior at all times.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Serve as a role model for all district staff.
  • Engage in approved professional development opportunities to continuously improve skills and effectiveness.

Education, Licenses, and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least 48 college hours or successful completion of Paraprofessional Certification Training or similarly approved program/course upon hire.
  • Educational Aide Certificate I, II, or III, or willingness to obtain certification upon hire.

  • Self-motivated and capable of performing tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Manage multiple complex projects concurrently while handling frequent interruptions.
  • Maintain emotional control under stress and demonstrate effective communication (both verbal and written).
  • Coordinate district support functions efficiently.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

  • Must be able to lift and carry 15-44 pounds regularly.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, climbing, stooping/crouching/kneeling, pushing/pulling, and reaching.
  • Repetitive hand motions and prolonged computer use.
  • Ability to speak clearly and concisely.
  • Occasional district-wide and state-wide travel is required.
  • Work irregular or prolonged hours when necessary.
