Missions and Responsibilities


The Construction Director candidate will be responsible for managing the construction and pre-commissioning of the project and will be assigned in the office during engineering and on-site during the construction phases, through start-up and commissioning. The candidate will represent Global E&C Solutions in front of the end customer, project management company, and partner organizations.


The Construction Director is responsible for:

  • Managing safety, quality, schedule, and cost (implementation of HSE rules and permitting, promotion of safety, compliance with IMS; implementation of QA/QC standards and resolution of site NCR; successful completion of construction within defined budgets and schedule).
  • Provide leadership to the Construction Management Team, ensuring a best in class HSE and Quality performance is executed at all phases during the project.
  • Ensuring the quality of construction/installation works according to contract requirements, codes and Air Liquide standards; supporting the qualification of manufacturing workshops.
  • Ensure that during detailed engineering that Constructability is fully considered, offering construction knowledge and experience to all phases of the project. This includes providing input during Model, Constructability and Modularization reviews.
  • Be responsible for evaluation of sub-contractor, vendor and supplier capabilities as well as global module fabricators capabilities.
  • Ensure the proper and accurate reporting of progress, productivity and quantities to be installed during construction.
  • Managing the interfaces between disciplines at site as well as between partners and subcontractors; handling claims, disputes, changes and clarifications within a timely manner.
  • Work with the Project Director to plan the mobilization of construction and commissioning staff, ensure the sufficient number and qualification of personnel; coordination of specialists or vendor representatives mobilize per the schedule; capitalization of construction.
  • Demonstrating an inter-discipline mindset (included but not limited to HSE, QAQC, Civil, Piping, Flat Bottom Tank, Electrical and Instrumentation), intellectual and honest profile.
  • Reporting on a weekly and monthly basis (safety and quality performance, construction situation and forecast, and budget consumption including quantities, man-hour consumption, cost and achieved milestones).
  • Executing a smooth handover to the commissioning manager, and support as needed during start-up and commissioning.
  • Developing competitiveness by supporting proposal, project or enforcing optimization on site.
  • Demonstrating technical experience and strong management and leadership capabilities; develop and train new talents; assessing capabilities and performance of the site team.
  • Knowledge and experience of Modularization and Advanced Work Packaging.
  • Previously held the role of Construction Manager with at least 20+ years working on major projects particularly in the Petrochemical, Chemical or Oil and Gas industries, including FEL, detailed design and construction phases including commissioning, start-up and handover to operations.
  • Working with the Project Director to plan the mobilization of construction and commissioning staff, ensure sufficient number and qualification of personnel; coordination of specialists or vendor representatives in right time at site to execute their job; capitalization of the construction.


Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree from an ABET accredited program required.
  • 30 years experience in site safety and quality.
  • Ability to establish and maintain site safety culture that proactively supports craft and establishes collaborative relationships with craft.
  • 30 years experience in site construction activities supporting execution of EPC projects domestically and internationally greater than 850 MUSD with construction value greater than 500 MUSD.
  • Experience leading site project teams in excess of 60 individuals to manage more than 700 multi disciple craft at site.
  • Ability to lead site project teams that include safety, area supervisors, engineer, project controls, subcontract administration, QA/QC and material control.
  • Working knowledge of Advanced Work Packaging concepts.
  • Extensive knowledge in subcontract management, budget control, scheduling and progress tracking.
  • Basic knowledge of Engineering in all disciplines and process
  • 100% travel (assigned on construction sites)
