Center Engineer - Richardson, TX

Hybrid – 2-3 days a week in the office

Payrate: $42/hr.

Targeted Years of Experience: 3-5 years

Location: Richardson, TX

Network Engineering and Project Management experience

Network build experience

Someone who can prioritize work by size of the project and urgency

Turn ups and network builds

Coordinate with operations

Handle 50-60 projects at a time

Work with stakeholders on project and timelines

Projects can range from card installs to complex builds

Software: CCP, Canvas, Excell, MS Suites

Office role no site visits

Hybrid in office 2-3 times a week (Richardson, TX)

The candidate -

  • Project Management oriented individual.
  • Able to juggle many projects at the same time, e.g. 50-60 projects, simultaneously.
  • Good head on their shoulders to prioritize needs of the business, the things that get escalated and need prioritize.
  • Good skills on PCs and their applications, e.g. MS Office Excel.
  • Keep organized electronically.
  • Type efficiently.


Looking for -

  • Very good to have a solid understanding of networking and understand aspects of Engineering.
  • Networking – similar to Detail Engineering.
  • Work closely with the Detail Engineer and understand their role, e.g. specs.
  • What is a Spec? What is the purpose of a Spec? Why is a Spec needed? What goes into Specs?
  • What does a Field Engineer, Vendor, Ops do with the Spec?
  • Turning up a nw build. This much eqt for location, racks placed, power, etc.
  • Who are the Stakeholders for turning up the build? e.g. Operations partners, Vendor partners, Requestors, etc.


The role -

  • Not a Detail Engineer position but needs to be familiar with (pref exp) Networking and aspects of Engineering.
  • Candidate is providing a Project Coordination function.
  • Take requirements for a build. The Detail Engineering of the build.
  • Coordinate with Ops and Vendors, so that eqt can be delivered.
  • Delivered, Installation, cabling up, turning over to the next team in the life cycle of the project.
  • Simple (e.g. card install) to more complex (e.g. multiple routers).
  • High level – Project Coordination, 50-60 projects.
  • Proficient with use of PC and apps on a daily basis (e.g. MS Office).
  • Experience with Engineering type systems, e.g. databases/updates.
  • Candidate will work with their systems – CCP, Canvas, Suite of tools associated with these, etc. Not expected to know these proprietary systems. Able to quickly come in and pick these up.


Day in the life of a Center Engineer –

  1. Get a new project that Detail Engineer has analyzed completely and puts together the Site Survey Questions (PEC). Pre-Engineering Checklist. Give to site to answer.
  2. From PEC - make decisions on if Ops or Vendor, based on locations and experience, big/small sites, who the best Vendors are, who is available, etc.
  3. Give to Selected entity to answer.
  4. Get the answers back.
  5. Ensure logically answered. Good when familiar with racks, pieces of eqt, etc. Not a PM only.
  6. Need useful response. Center Engineer evaluates to ensure good answers.
  7. Detail Engineer hands back to Center Engineer who begins the Coordination.
  8. Center Engineers sets up schedules with Ops.
  9. Eqt is tracked, when it arrives, is enough material?
  10. Base decisions on how it is put together.
  11. Ensure project continues, no roadblocks.
  12. See it through to conclusion.


No specific equipment knowledge needed. No specific companies they’ve found good candidates come from. They use large scale routers as Cisco and Juniper, but knowledge is not required. Maybe companies similar to Verizon – Frontier/AT&T/T-Mobile who build networks. Coming from these companies is helpful. Technical detail not near as detailed as what is required by the Detail Engineer.

Overall experience desired in a nutshell

Overall experience desired is someone familiar with networking and some aspects of Engineering that has solid Coordination skills and can jump right in and learn to use and navigate the corporate systems.

Good if they’ve worked in Network Engineering environment as a PC or a Program Mgr.

5 or more years in driving cross-functional projects, vendor management, and outsource teams

• Strong project planning and time management

• Demonstrates excellent verbal, written, analytical and communication skills

• Demonstrates ability to influence organizational direction and initiatives across all leadership levels

• Experience with SRM/SAP as well as expense and/or capital budgets

• Demonstrates excellent problem solving skills

• Demonstrates expert knowledge and proven experience with the full suite of Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Project, and the Clarity Software Application suite

• Demonstrates competency in Telecommunications technologies, networks and business processes

• Proven track record of leading multiple complex projects to successful completion

• PMP Certification is strongly preferred

• Technical degree strongly preferred

Hybrid working model with 2-3 days in office per week possible. The days in office may increase if business needs change. Initial training period of 60 days or less will require more frequent time in the office.
