Job Description:
We are seeking a compassionate, skilled Massage Therapist to join our wellness team. The ideal candidate will specialize in providing therapeutic massage services to senior citizens, focusing on improving their quality of life, mobility, and overall well-being. The Massage Therapist will provide massage therapy services as defined and allowed by the California Massage Therapy Council. The PHCD Health & Fitness Center (the Center) position provides massage therapy by appointment on an as needed basis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Massage soft body tissues to relieve discomfort and provide treatment for injuries and wellness maintenance.
- Apply pressure to specific parts of the body with the hands and fingers to release muscle tension and bring relief from related symptoms.
- Discuss client concerns, medical histories and specific stresses or pains to develop the most effective approach to massage treatment.
- Develop personalized treatment plans for individual clients that specify massage types, treatment areas and treatment frequency.
- Propose final treatment plans to clients and implement them only after acceptance and agreement.
- Educate clients on self-care techniques, exercises, and lifestyle changes that can complement massage therapy. Provide emotional support and empathy, understanding the unique challenges faced by seniors.
- Keep detailed records of treatments, client progress, and any recommendations made, ensuring compliance with privacy and health regulations.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for therapy sessions, adhering to all hygiene and safety protocols.
Qualifications:
- Certification in Massage Therapy from a recognized institution.
- Specialized training or experience in working with senior populations.
- Knowledge of age-related health concerns and appropriate massage techniques.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to improve the wellbeing of elderly clients.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a healthcare team.
- Up-to-date with current massage therapy research, especially related to geriatric care.
- High school graduation or equivalent G.E.D. is required.
- Adheres to all current regulations and laws related to massage therapy.
