PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:


The General Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily activities of the business TEN Logistics to ensure performance objectives and profitability targets are achieved. This includes strategic planning, development of people, sales growth and account management, budgeting and forecasting, marketing, operations, and P&L management. This is a leadership position requiring a positive, proactive approach with the ability to identify and effectively communicate business objectives, ensure resources are available and aligned, and ultimately achieve desired financial performance.



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Leadership:


  • Directs all operations of the company to achieve goals, objectives, and plans.


  • Through verbal and written communications and actions, sets the tone for the company’s level of service to customers, interactions with carriers and business partners, as well as relationships with employees.


  • Reinforce a positive, growth-oriented culture focusing on teamwork, collaboration, learning and a “can do” approach to all aspects of the business.


  • Management of personnel and the development of employees through coaching, training and utilization of a review and feedback system to ensure employees are developed for performance and growth.

  • Partner with Stein Industries shared services to build collaborative back office and talent management capabilities and direct the annual planning process.

Strategy & People:


  • Evolve and communicate vision statement for company through which we establish our purpose, values and mission and align the core focus of the company – “what is our value proposition”?


  • Ensure the company has the correct individuals in the correct positions to effectively execute the vision, mission and focus of the company.


  • Provide organizational discipline to ensure adherence to strategic direction through verbal and written communication and management actions.


  • Understand industry, marketplace and competitive environment and evolve strategic position, initiatives, and action items as needed.


  • Evolve the rolling 3-year strategic plan that reflects an understanding of the marketplace, company SWOT analysis, company value proposition, and evaluation of strategic initiatives to pursue.



Operations:


  • Ensure clear and consistent communication of annual plans, objectives, and initiatives to all employees in the company.


  • Conducts budget and scorecard reviews with department managers and review relevant operating expenses vs. budget and ensure they are doing the same with each of their direct reports as appropriate.


Encourage innovative thinking across all aspects of the operations in an effort to continuously improve operations.


Work closely with the operating managers to develop and maintain a safe and reliable carrier network and negotiate market freight rates for customers that provide good margin for both the customer and business.


  • Manage direct reports to achieve plan objectives through timely review and reporting systems as well as back up or cross training when appropriate.


  • Delegate’s responsibility, accountability, and authority so each direct report can effectively achieve their position responsibilities and objectives.


  • Prepare and conduct annual performance and compensation review with each direct report and ensure they are doing the same with each employee under their supervision.


  • Lead and support the identification and implementation of new technologies and systems to enable efficient operations and highly scalable growth.



Sales & Marketing:


  • Identify targeted market/customer segments and develop services, programs, pricing and positioning to effectively grow sales and gain market share.


  • Establish sales oriented, growth-based culture with effective communication of goals and performance throughout the organization


  • Establish a customer centric support operation based on exceptional customer service, proactive customer interactions and innovative thinking.


  • Direct marketing efforts including collateral development, web site design and effectiveness, digital strategies to build brand awareness, drive leads, and grow sales.



Financial:


  • Full P&L responsibility for the company.


  • Oversight of accounts receivable, aging, and collections.


  • Effective management of pricing, gross margin, compensation and commission models, as well as operating expenses.


  • Participate in monthly and quarterly meetings to review performance vs budget and related KPI’s.


  • Responsible for monthly revenue forecasts due monthly for three future months.



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


  • BA in Supply Chain Management, Business, Logistics or similarly related field or, in lieu of a degree, 10 or more years of comparable work experience.
  • 5-7 years of management experience in various roles of a 3PL.
  • 3-5 years of General Manager or equivalent experience
  • 5+ Years Team Management experience
  • Solid understanding of business financial management (budgets, profit and loss, forecasting and planning).
  • Proven record of leadership and outstanding sales growth.
  • Ability to effectively negotiate.
  • Ability to make timely decisions and follow through on commitments.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal skills.
  • Ability to write professional business reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to travel (including overnight) as needed.
