Pay Range: $35-45/hour, depending on experience

Summary:

Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) Inspector operates CMM equipment to perform measurement inspection and testing of production materials and components using previously prepared inspection programs. Mounts or installs tools, attachments, fixtures, or work pieces on CMM. Being a CMM inspector performs in-process or final inspections. Documents and reports non-conforming materials as required. Additionally, a CMM inspector reads and interprets blueprints and specifications. A CMM inspector is responsible for inspecting a CMM for functionality. The CMM inspectors’ duties include developing programs to inspect products of varied degrees of complexity using the CMM machine, ensuring the machine is working correctly, and calibrating the machine to ensure proper measuring techniques are utilized.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate CMM machine using established programs, as well as creating new programs using programming software.
  • Perform dimensional inspection on product using CMM, calipers, micrometers and height gauges.
  • Perform visual and dimensional inspection on product per procedures.
  • Perform first piece inspection and in-process inspections.
  • Maintain lot integrity.
  • Ensure all First Article Inspection (FAI) packages are properly completed.
  • Must comply with all applicable safety requirements, policies and procedures, while maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly work environment. Must participate in required training, medical monitoring, safety, and health evaluations and programs.
  • Must wear the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in all designated areas of facility.
  • Perform all physical functions of position, standing, stooping, bending, sitting, walking, twisting, kneeling, turning and lifting of materials up to 35 lbs.
  • Meet established attendance standards.
  • Work overtime as needed.
  • Must report any work-related injury or illness immediately to your direct supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Interprets engineering drawings, schematic diagrams, or formulas and confers with management or engineering staff to determine quality and reliability standards.
  • Selects products for tests at specified stages in production process, and tests products for variety of qualities such as dimensions, performance, and mechanical, electrical, or chemical characteristics.
  • Records test data, applying statistical quality control procedures.
  • Evaluates data and writes reports to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards.
  • Perform inspections and generate Certificates of Conformance as required or directed.
  • Sets up and performs destructive and nondestructive tests on materials, parts, or products to measure conformance to requirements.
  • Other duties may be assigned.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Strong background concerning the usage and care of precision measuring tools and equipment.

Ability to effectively read and understand blueprints, engineering documents, purchase orders, inspection manuals and procedures.

Strong background programming and operating coordinate measuring machines.

Strong metrology, blueprint reading, and GD&T interpretation skills.

Familiarity with AS9102 Form and First Article Inspection (FAI) is desired.

Must have practical experience performing in-process and final inspections.

Demonstrates an understanding of related aerospace ISO and AS requirements.

Must have experience using various mechanical inspection tools, such as micrometers and calipers.

Always maintain accuracy and attention to detail and complete tasks in a timely manner.

Knowledge of dimensional, visual and mechanical inspection processes.

Ability to work with mathematical concepts.

Proficiency in using Microsoft Word and Excel.

Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out work instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Dealing with issues involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Ability to work with little supervision and make intuitive decisions when general instruction is given.

Ability to work effectively with others in a team environment.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

Education and/or Experience:

Associate degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Language Skills:


  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.


Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.


Computer Skills:

  • Working knowledge of: Microsoft Office programs, including Outlook, Word, Excel.
  • Daily record keeping according to company policies.
