Columbia, United States Youth Corps Full time

Position Summary

The Executive Director of Youth Corps will serve as a role model and a champion of youth empowerment and advancement, complemented by innovation, servitude, and passion for the mission. The Executive Director will provide thought leadership, strategic direction, and influence for the success of the organization’s mission. This role will oversee the day-to-day operations and cultivate positive and healthy relationships with the internal team, board, families, volunteers, and community partners


Strategic Leadership

  • Oversee the effective development and administration of the organization’s mission, vision, goals, and strategies while ensuring execution of responsible operational standards.
  • Monitor program initiatives and hold the organization accountable for reasonable growth and change.
  • Evaluate and advise on the impact of program strategy in order to stimulate and sustain participant growth.
  • Actively engage and energize board members, staff, students, families, alumni, partnering organizations, and funders.
  • Maintain responsibility for the financial integrity and fiscal management of the organization.
  • Develop and maintain appropriate staffing structure to implement the work of Youth Corps and maintain a positive atmosphere of teamwork and openness among staff.
  • Ensure day-to-day operations of the organization are being met in a professional, efficient, and effective manner.


Program Development & Visibility

  • In conjunction with the Program Director, monitor program needs and evaluate curriculum with a focus on continued development of program implementation.
  • Assist in removing barriers to participation to ensure equal access and opportunity.
  • Work closely with other local organizations as appropriate to develop collaborative relationships for the benefit of students and the community at large.
  • Identify opportunities within the community to network, connect, and ensure a strong community presence.
  • Work with Program Director to assist students, families, and community leaders with questions and issues ensuring they have a world class experience with Youth Corps.


People & Culture Champion

  • Empower staff to take ownership of the contribution they each make to the organizational culture.
  • Promote staff engagement through intentional opportunities across the organization that allow for every employee to experience the Youth Corps culture positively and personally.
  • Work to identify training needs and ensure proactive plans to support staff development at all levels.
  • Develop career paths for employees in order to drive individual growth, organizational contribution, and long-term tenure.


Fundraising & Marketing

  • Identify opportunities to expand local revenue generation to support existing program operations as well as build a funding base to support future operations, reserves, etc.
  • In concert with the Board of Directors, initiate and plan fund development activities designed to support programs, operations, and other special initiatives.
  • Oversee all fund development initiatives including grants and grant writing monitoring progress and reporting results.
  • Develop and launch marketing strategies that help to build Youth Corps presence and
  • participation within the community.
  • Be visible, approachable, and accessible to community members in order to create partnerships and awareness of the Youth Corps mission and its key priorities.


Business & Financial Stewardship

  • In partnership with the Board of Directors, develop and direct the overall financial management of the organizational budget.
  • Assess, recommend, and institute new ideas, practices, and concepts to improve overall company operations.
  • Ensure that sound bookkeeping, accounting and payroll processes and procedures are followed.
  • Provide the Board with comprehensive, regular reports on the revenues and expenditure of the organization.
  • Manage the annual financial planning and budget process and ensure all organizational divisions operate within the approved budgets.
  • Ensure safeguards are in place to audit, measure, and verify business and financial performance and practices.


Education, Experience, and Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field required, Master’s degree preferred.
  • 5 years’ supervisory experience strongly preferred.
  • Ability to deal sensitively with confidential material and information.
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations.
  • Fundraising experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook and other Microsoft programs and Google Non-Profit Suite.
  • Strong work ethic and team player and a high degree of professionalism.
  • Strong interpersonal (verbal and written) communication skills.
  • Must have strong organizational and multi-tasking skills, as well as the ability to effectively prioritize tasks.
