Overview

The Manager, Political Affairs is responsible for the day-to-day management of ACOG’s political work and execution of efficient political strategies to develop state and Congressional support for ACOG’s legislative priorities. Responsible for the development and execution of efficient fundraising strategies for Ob-Gyn PAC and help to ensure compliance for all Ob-Gyn PAC contributions and disbursements.


Responsibilities

• Play a central role in the creation, implementation, and ongoing analysis and improvement of annual Ob-Gyn PAC fundraising strategy, including management of PAC promotion and messaging, digital and in-person PAC fundraising opportunities, and various donor incentive programs.

• Manage development and execution of efficient political giving strategy to best achieve ACOG’s annual goals, including as reflected in the Commitment to Policy Action.

• Manage, all administrative logistics of daily Ob-Gyn PAC operation including coordination with other ACOG departments and with outside consultants and vendors; processing of contracts and invoices; and logistical management of all contributions, disbursements, and event logistics. Manage external outreach and internal operations.

• Provide leadership, direction, and management of staff, including fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment through supervising staff, providing feedback, coaching, support, mentoring, performance management, and training and development opportunities as appropriate.

• Liaise with ACOG Members and candidates, campaigns, and committees, often serving as the primary point of contact for Ob-Gyn PAC.

• Work with other physician groups to coordinate successful joint fundraising events.

• Maintain accurate records of political fundraising event invitations received and coordinate Ob-Gyn PAC physician or staff attendance at events. Manage event RSVPs, request and submit event contributions, track all disbursements, and provide other relevant support as needed. Attend such events occasionally as needed.

• Develop content and compile relevant reporting data for Ob-Gyn PAC Annual Report and regular ACOG advocacy publications such as ACOG Advocacy News.

• Create Ob-Gyn PAC fundraising correspondence and materials to expand and promote member engagement, with a particular focus on creative solutions for fundraising during and after the COVID public health crisis.

• Process all Ob-Gyn PAC check and credit card contributions.

• Maintain Ob-Gyn PAC database (NGP), including ensuring information is current and accurate, and creating innovative and efficient ways to better-utilize fundraising resources.

• Manage all aspects of development of Ob-Gyn PAC political strategy, including researching Congressional and State candidates and elected officials (especially health care providers), vetting candidates requesting Ob-Gyn PAC support, and monitoring races.

• Manage relevant Ob-Gyn PAC information in ACOG’s membership databases (NetForum, Nucleus) and conduct necessary data imports and exports.

• Plan Ob-Gyn PAC Governing Committee virtual and in-person meetings, as well as email “meetings” and candidate review votes, through tasks such as agenda development, logistics of meeting planning, preparation of candidate background documents, collection of PAC contribution and disbursement data, and any other presentation materials as needed to inform Committee and solicit Committee input on relevant topics. Attend and staff all meetings.

• Plan Ob-Gyn PAC fundraising events and organize PAC efforts and materials for Congressional Leadership Conference, Annual Clinical and Scientific Meeting, State Legislative Roundtable, and Annual District Meetings. Travel to meetings as necessary.

• Liaise with external consultants including compliance firm and outside counsel and help to ensure that all Ob-Gyn PAC contributions and disbursements meet Federal Election Commission requirements.

• Coordinate with ACOG Accounting and Membership departments to manage incoming Ob-Gyn PAC contributions, both personal and corporate, made in conjunction with ACOG dues payments.

• Manage Ob-Gyn PAC portion of ACOG’s website, in coordination with relevant teams within ACOG.

• Assist with other Ob-Gyn PAC and related ACOG advocacy projects as needed.

• Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.

• 5 years of related experience in political fundraising, database management, or women’s health advocacy required.

• Minimum of one year of supervisory experience.

• Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.

• Excellent organizational skills, analytics, and attention to detail.

• Ability to work independently, take initiative, manage multiple projects, exercise sound professional judgment, and meet deadlines is essential.

• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or other related software and Internet research skills are required. Experience with NGP database preferred.

• Good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with a variety of levels of professional staff and physician volunteers is essential.

• Ability to travel.

• Interest in women’s health, health equity, physician issues, and legislative advocacy required.
